"You know there is nothing you can do, Eddie. Besides, I am telling you the truth." Anna shrugged dismissively.
"There is no way she is what you call her"
At this moment, a waiter came with their foods. Anna must have ordered them before Eddie arrived. Eddie felt his stomach empty as the scent of the food found its way up his nose. This reduced his anger a little bit. As they ate, Anna looked at him like one would a beloved child. She quickly swallowed the contents of her mouth and said, "I am from Sharwalk, the village of prophets. I am a prophet and not to brag, a powerful one. Eddie, I can see things you cannot. My eyes can pierce through the fabric of time to see what can possibly happen in the future. You love Canya but are you sure she loves you?"
Eddie lowered his head to think about the question. Canya always told him she loved him and from his observation, there was no way she was lying about her feelings. He did not know whether she was a witch or not but he could not doubt her feelings for him. Seeing him silent, Anna continued, "She may be in love with you but to her, there are more important things than what she feels about you. The consequences of what you did with her are for you to discover, as for her relationships with other people, I think it is important that you know..."
Eddie's face twitched as his expressions changed in a continuous manner as Anna told him about Canya. Everything that Anna said shocked him so much that he only looked at her with mouth wide open. In front of him, Canya had been the righteous lady who apart from her knowledge of the world, he knew she was innocent. While she could do anything to get whatever she wanted, that was only limited to flashing some money to those who could indulge in unscrupulous activities.
"I do not believe you, Anna. Even if you somehow hate her, you do not have to lie about such matters." He said, barely believing himself. Anna had been a good friend and if he was asked to choose between his own brothers and Anna, he was sure he would trust the latter, let alone Canya.
"I have everything I need with me." Anna gave a doting chuckle, "I do not need to hate anybody. Eddie, everything I told you is because I care about you and it is my wish that you make no further mistakes from henceforth. That girl will only lead you to your doom and it is high time you became smart. If you do not believe me, meet me at Paradise the day after tomorrow at twilight."
He had come from class with his mind full of a girl he was not sure could remember him. When he got to his house, he found a stranger who informed him that someone wanted him dead. When Anna invited him here, he came as fast as he could because he knew she could help him forget about Lulu and the message the stranger had brought, even if it was only going to last a few minutes. In any case, she was good at making stories. Instead, she told him things about Canya, the girl he was enamored with since late last year. This made him wonder what he had done to the gods that made them so intent on giving him no peace of mind.
It was not the first time he was devoted to a girl like he was to Canya. His first girl was Lulu, although they had been children when they were together, he could never love her any less even after thirteen years had passed. Despite his feelings for her, when his parents decided that urban life was enough for them, Eddie had been forced to part with Lulu and even after searching without rest, he was yet to meet her.
Two years after they moved to the countryside, he met Vennessa, a girl whose beauty had impressed him. He did everything he could to win her heart. She failed to relent, and as if to add pepper to a wound, she fell in love with his best friend. Three more girls came but none ever gave him the love he longed for, the love he had at least got from Lulu. This made him miss that first love of his dearly.
A few weeks after he had joined University of Noya, he met Jane, a lady he considered to be the most beautiful woman he had ever met and not even Lulu came close. After two years of dating, she one day came to him that she was not comfortable in their relationship. He was so heartbroken that he decided not to be in love until he found Lulu. How he came to be with Canya was to date a mystery to him.
"Okay." He nodded dolefully before finishing the contents of his plate. He then said his goodbye and left. What he wanted now was sleep, if it could get him to at least clear his mind.
"Let us meet tomorrow, Eddie." Anna smiled behind his back. She was glad she had planted a seed in his mind. She knew that would grow in due time and help him free himself from what he was already entangled in.
