Chapter 55 - The Battlefield

Leo was speeding towards the battlefield. On the way, a few beastmen gave him looks, but were too preoccupied with recovery to do anything. The injured were being escorted back continuously.

Two large ships were firing back and forth. Laser and plasma blast were lighting up the sky and the ground.

The stench of burnt flesh and metal was in the air. Blood soaked the ground, and smoke blocked most of everyone's vision.

"Enemy hover ship. Fire!" Tigra's beastmen saw Leo driving up and fired upon him. Leo stirred the craft to safety, but two more stationary cannons fired upon him.

"Damn it. They hit my port side. I need to bail." Leo leaped from the hovercraft just in time before the plasma blast barraged it. The beastmen destroyed craft and sent men in to verify.

Leo rolled on the ground and took cover in an abandoned building. The place was an old brick building with some metal airship crashed into the side of it.

Five feline beastmen fanned out around the area and converged on the building. "Fire upon contact. We are not taking any prisoners."

"We have movement in the west side of the building. I'm throwing explosives."

When Leo heard explosives, he destroyed the wall between him and the beastman and attacked. He caught the feline beastman off guard and knocked him out.

Leo didn't want to kill anymore unless he had too. He wished people could live together like in Lankani City.

"Unit 3789, report. Why was there no explosion?"

"Leave now, or you are next." Leo dropped the communication device. He placed his hand on the ground and knew which rooms the beastmen were located.

Two beastmen were a room away and about to come into Leo room. "Tombstone!" Using the brick walls in the room he collapsed it on the incoming men.

"Only two left..." Leo said to himself. Leo ran to closest one, but as soon as he entered the beastman opened fired on him.

"Team leader, I'm engaging the enemy now."

The team leader understood and used Shadow Walk to get to the location.

Leo was pinned down behind a wall. He looked left and right and saw no escape. Leo placed his hand on the ground and yelled, "Buffalo Cage! Tombstone!" Stone and rock surrounded the beastman in his room and closed in on him. Tee beastman was trapped.

"Shadow Strike!" The strike was thrown at the crouched. Leo threw up his arms, and the beastman's fist slammed into his crossed arms. The attack flung Leo into the wall.

The beastman came in with a claw strike to finish Leo off. "Stone Statue!" The beastman clutched on Leo's throat. He tried to crush it, but it covered itself in stone.

Leo smiled and yelled, "Gada!" A small stone popsicle in Leo's hand expanded to its original size. It was the artifact he chose upon leaving the palace. It was a replica of Durga's Mace from a long time ago. It is a long staff with a giant blunt metal ball at the tip.

"Descending Moon!" The mace crashed down on the team leaders head defeating him in one blow. "Gada." The mace shrunk again, and Leo put it away. Leo sighed and then heard outside.

"Men it looks like Tigra's men are inside. Destroy that building."

The canine beastmen in hover vehicle outside opened fire on the building. Everyone on this battlefield was Leo's enemy. Leo looked at the beastman below him and knew he couldn't save them. He used his movement technique and ran out of the building.

*Pew* *Pew* *Pew* *Pew* *Pew* *Pew* *Pew* *Pew*

Plasma blast destroyed the building. A beastman saw Leo dash out of the building when they opened fire. "An enemy fleeing."

Leo was trying to move to the next building, but another canine craft pulled up. "It's a human. Kill him. We have no time to capture him." The ship in front of started shooting at him.

"Buffalo Cage!"

A wall of earth surrounds Leo. Plasma started to pummel the walls of Leo's only defense. He was stuck out in the open.

The beastmen came from around the other building and saw their brethren firing at the wall of stone. "Open Fire."

A blast upon blast from all directions was beating on Leo's only defense. "Buffalo Cage." Leo erected another wall of earth around what little room he had.

Leo didn't know what to do. Then he heard more plasma fire break out. New units from Tigra's group arrived and attacked the canine units. They assumed an ally was being ganged up on, so they helped.

Leo poked his head seeing the two forces focusing on each other and took this chance to run. He ran to the house he was trying for before as soon as he got in. A canine beastman ran in and said, "you are not getting away human." He shot at Leo and nicked his arm. Leo got behind some wreckage.

"Human, how did you escape our imprisonment?" The beastman was curious how this human escaped. All the humans in the area were captured. Females were used to breed with, and the males were used for slave labor.

Blast kept chipping away the wall until one penetrated through. Alas, Leo was already long gone.

"Descending Moon!" A leg drop came down behind the beastman and knocked him to the ground. The beastman shook it off looking up. Leo punched him and grabbed his collar.

"Where are you keeping the humans?"

The beastman was bewildered. How did a human out power him?

Leo punched him and said, "tell me now, or I will kill you." When Leo heard the beastmen were imprisoning humans, Leo couldn't help but get angry. He didn't care about preserving this beastman's life anymore. Leo punched the beastman two more times.

Blood was pouring out of beastman. He was too proud to speak. After a few more punches the human's fist was covered in his blood. "The humans...they're in cages."

* Thwap* Thwap* * Thwap*

"Stop. Please stop..." the beastman begged. "They're near our spaceship. All of them..."

"Descending Moon!" A glowing fist finished off the beastman. Leo was angry, but a hint of hope sprung up. Maybe some of the people from Independence are still alive.

Leo wiped the blood off and ran toward where the humans were being kept. "Joe please be safe..." Leo whispered to himself as he ran as fast as he could.
