Chapter 59 - Leaving

Leo awoke to find him and Shadow surrounded by a herd of bison. Even though he was blind, the sounds and smells told his brain so. A man floated down from the bison and put his hand on Leo's shoulder.

"Leo, you need to rest."

Leo didn't panic. This voice was one he would never forget. "Joe, I'm glad you are alive."

Joe was surprised this blind boy remembered him. The dark-skinned, bearded man smiled. "Please rest Leo."

Leo shook his head. He finally realized he was bad luck and caused those around him to get hurt. Leo decided, he would leave Shadow here with Joe. Even though he eventually found Joe or Joe found him, it convinced him, even more, to move on.

"Joe, tell Shadow people are waiting for her at our old base."

Joe paused and understood. "I will tell her. I assume you are leaving."

"Yes. Do you have any clothing I can have?"

Joe gave Leo a buffalo coat he made. Leo accepted it and started to walk away. Using mana and earth element, Leo could sense everything around him enough to walk. Even though he was in severe pain, Leo kept moving.

Joe watched Leo limp away and then saw him turn around. "Joe there is a settlement far from here called Lankani City. It is the only safe location in the world. I hope to see you there one day."

After saying what he wanted, Leo left.

-------------------------------

Two days went by, and Shadow finally came too. She was surprised to see Joe was the one who saved them. She stayed with Joe for a few days to heal. With her throat damaged she couldn't talk but nodding she was able to communicate with Joe.

Joe told her about Leo leaving, the people waiting for her, and even told her about the city, Lankani. Shadow asked if Joe wanted to go with her, but he told her, he found his place.

He wanted to cultivate in peace and live among the bison. He would leave for Leo, but Leo didn't want company, so Joe chose to stay put with the bison.

Shadow left the next day, Joe stared up and said, "I don't know if there is a god, but please protect Leo and Shadow wherever they go." Joe didn't know who he was praying to, but maybe it was the universe itself.

-------------------------------

Shadow spent a few days traveling until she finally arrived at her old base. Upon arrival four beastmen, three humans, two cat beast, and two babies welcomed her.

"Shadow...I'm so glad to see you again." Anna teared up a bit. She was happy to see an old friend again. Anna looked around and didn't see Leo. "Where is Leo?"

Shadow couldn't talk so she just looked down sadly.

"Was he killed?"

Shadow shook her head left and right. When Anna saw the no, she heaved a sigh of relief. "He must have his reasons for not returning." Anna walked over and placed her hand on her back to comfort her.

The women just stood there for a moment until little Leo's cry broke the silence. They both looked down and smiled seeing the little baby.

Shadow's eyebrow raised upon seeing the half-breed, but she pinched the cute baby's cheek anyways. She pointed at the baby then Anna. Anna shook her head.

"No, this baby is Samantha's child." Shadow perked up. Seeing Shadow think about Samantha, Anna frowned and said, "Samantha died on the way to this location. She and Leo saved our lives."

The other two women nodded. Two of the beastmen walked forward and looked at Shadow with a sad face.

"Shadow we denotated the bombs and destroyed Tigra's infrastructure. It looks like you had a rough time in Deathclaw valley," Mouse said as she looked at Shadow's neck-wound. It looked like it had barely just healed. "Do you need anything for us to do?"

Shadow shook her head and patted Mouse's shoulder. Shadow understood she was just worried. "Mouse, come on. Let's get everyone here to our new base."

The beastmen and humans loaded into an aircraft. Goblin looked out at Orino and Sabra. "You two, get into the ship."

Orino shook his head. The lion wanted to stay here and wait for his brother to return. He was lucky enough to back here the last time he came. For his older brother, Orino would wait a lifetime.

Seeing Orino's stubbornness, Goblin resigned. He got the aircraft and disappeared into the sky. Their new base was built on the side of the mountains. After Tigra sent spies, Shadow had them relocate.

The eight of them arrived at the base. Goblin had Mouse, and the two other beastmen unload the ship and set up an area for the humans and babies.

Goblin sat down with Shadow and Anna to talk about the intel he collected. Anna shared a bit she heard while imprisoned. The two of them both talked about Lankani City when Shadow motioned them to tell her more.

Goblin found out that the city is a place to get stronger. They created a school for those under Mana Fighter, and there is a palace that can increase your power by a lot.

Anna heard that humans and all the races lived together. The beastmen that raped her and the other girls were told this as to mock them. They were told several times they were nothing, but breeding tools.

Shadow felt sorry. If she knew Anna and Samantha was still alive, she would have rescued them herself. Seeing Shadow look down with regret, Anna said, "Shadow don't blame yourself for the situation. You did not do it. I know, you would have rescued us if you had known."

This human woman always surprised her and Lycan. Her ability to understand and accept things as they are was an impressive quality.

"So, Mr. Goblin, are we going to head for this new city?"

"Yes. We found the coordinates of the city in Leo's aircraft. He had coordinates of a location of a human fleet in the ship also."

"A fleet?" Anna asked.

"That is as much as I know," Goblin responded.

"Well if this city is true, there is strength in numbers. If it is safe, that is where I want to raise Samantha's son." Anna told Goblin is a serious tone.

"Shadow? Our mission is done here. Should we head to this city?"

Shadow sat there and thought about the chance it was fake. Since Leo recommended it and he was there once, she trusted it. She nodded her head and Goblin smiled.

"Alright, we can pack up tonight and leave tomorrow for this Lankani City."

The beastmen prepped four airships with weapons, food, water, and supplies. The humans packed into Leo's ship and Anna went over its controls.

Shadow went back to see if Orino would come with them, but he wouldn't get in her ship. She hugged the lion and went back to the base to get ready to leave.

After struggling for two years, Shadow got her revenge and finally felt weightless. She decided to bring these people to the city and get them settled. After that, she would return to look for Leo. He saved her, and she owed him her life.
