Camp Knight has seen massive expansion and improvements from a small FOB into a full fledged military base. The new airstrip being the most important improvement along with the arrival of the F-22A 5th Gen fighters of the 44th Fighter Group and elements of the 97th Air Mobility Wing all in a span of less than two months.
Meanwhile the Kingdom of Valecan has been busy is consolidating their defenses against the 'demons' from the portal. With their scouts never returning from missions, they were blind and uninformed about the capabilities of the 1st SE Division. Not like they'll be able to comprehend machine flight so easily anyway.
Much less, the possibility of flying 6000 meters up in the air.
Even less so the possibility of jumping from that height and surviving.
So when a C-17 Globemaster III flew above what they could see, hear or reach the Valecans were all ignorant of the aircraft that carries a team of Deltas with one mission; to secure and recover the captured scientist Colin Palmer.
Anton's POV
Cpt.Anton Hart and his team of Deltas were readying themselves for the HALO jump, they have gained the information on where the prisoners were held from the captured soldiers. They were a tough one to crack, but the CIA Spook who interrogated them found a way.
And so they were the ones who were going to act on the information. The brass have done their part, now they will need the fist.
"Approaching jump zone, one minute." He called out to his six man team who all stood up and prepared for HALO insertion.
Three Including Anton held their M4A1 Sopmod in their hands, a couple of former US Army engineers have Remington 870s and explosives to breach any possible blockades, and a single soldier armed with a M16A3 SDM rifle to take out distant targets.
The aircraft's ramp was already open perpendicular to the angle of the fuselage the men lined up ready to jump.
"3...2...1... Go! Go! Go!" He motioned for his men to jump off the ramp.
The first man to jump was Lt.Sam Robbins, former SF.
The next man jumped out, It was Sgt.Clay Ballard the squad's marksman, former SF.
Then the rest were all former rangers.
Lt.Brandon Walsh, Engineer.
Sgt.Ross Richards, Engineer
and Sgt.Logan Davis, Rifleman.
After Logan had finished his jump he stepped off the edge of the ramp into the cold night's embrace.
0500 Hours, Two days ago, Camp Knight.
Lewis has been listening to Nick ramble about storming the capital of the Valecan Kingdom for the past two minutes. They were both cleaning their rifles since they had nothing better to do as Camp Knight was being expanded and the SOG teams were surveying the area.
"Yo this is shit, I mean we have tanks, guns and that cassus belli shit why cant we just head straight for the capital and cut the snake's head?" Nick complained.
"Because its going to be this world's Operation Barborossa if we do that." Lewis replied.
"Operation what?"
Lewis sighed, he has an intrest for history, so he could compare what their sergeant said when he asked him a question similar to Nick's.
"We dont have the manpower to stretch as far as the capital which god knows how far from here. And even if we do capture or eliminate the ruling head the damn place will descend into chaos without a governing body that we cannot provide right now."
Nick gave a raised eyebrow to his friend.
"Just copy pasted what the sergeant said dumbass, Im not the one who's supposed to think about all that stuff."
They both chatted away about all the things a soldier would talk about while cleaning their rifles, then decided to head to the chow hall.
They walked on a pavement road, courtesy of the engineers, and saw heavy duty equipment digging away to creat some new infrastructure.
"Yo, I heard we're going to make a detention center for all possible captured prisoners."
"More mouths to feed? Damnit, we already have a logistics problem brewing up because we're trying to draw away attention from the media." Lewis said as they both stopped to look at the backhoe at work.
"Well, its not like the prisoners are that cooperative anyway, godamnit man last I heard they were refusing to eat because its the 'food of the demons' or some shit."
"Damn."
They both looked at the construction process a little while more before passing by a wide open area where the sphere is located.
Then a humvee came out of the portal. The two soldiers watched as the occupants of the humvee dismounted after they've parked.
Special Operators, Delta Force.
One of them looked at the two privates before looking back at his comrades, Lewis and Nick deciding ti continue their way to the mess hall.
"Delta huh?" Nick remarked.
"Yeah, damn they are sooo screwed."
"Heh, screwed up they did."
"Yoda?"
"Nerd!"
And so they laughed as they continued their way to the mess hall.
