Chapter 112 - Layla Rong

Kai Xin managed to find the time to meet up with Layla sometime in the middle of the week.

When she arrived at the hospital, she tried to call her mentor but the latter did not pick up her call.

Worried, she walked around the reception area and sighed heavily when she noticed a tall woman with light browning skin and loose black curls flirting with one of the houseman.

Frustrated at her lack of change despite being married, she rolled her eyes at the sight before calling out, "Layla!"

The woman turned around and smiled brightly when she saw her protege.

She went over and hugged her, "Kai Xin! I've miss you so much!"

"You know, the Judge is going to be upset if she found out you are messing around again."

Layla waved her hand and said, "Ah! No worries. The Judge and I agreed that I can flirt with the guys as long as it is for business."

Raising an eyebrow at her remark, Kai Xin asked suspiciously as they walked towards the elevator, "That was for business?"

"Of course! How else would I know that the maternal uncle just went out or that he met with someone from the Liu Family?"

"Oh!" Kai Xin was surprised to know that, "You got that from the houseman?"

Layla shrugged, "They are here all the time and I'm sure that at their age, they would gossip every now and then."

"Isn't it against client privilege?"

Layla reached over to press the button to the children's ward, "Well, I didn't ask them about their clients. I asked them about their clients' family."

Kai Xin glanced at her, "Pretty sure that goes against client-doctor privilege."

Layla laughed, "Well, it's a grey area."

They got off the lift and headed straight to the ward where Jenny, the orphaned child, was in.

When they saw private guards standing there, Layla frowned.

"They weren't here last week."

She picked up the phone and made a call, "I need the form, Dad. Please get Judge Jillian to sign."

After a while, Kai Xin heard Layla said,

"Well, what's the point of having a Supreme Court Judge as a father if he can't help with such a matter?...Uh huh. Uh huh. Fine, I'll bring Quinn over to see you. Just get this done ASAP. "

When she hung up, Kai Xin was staring at her.

"What?"

"You talked to Lord Rong like that?"

Layla shrugged. She lifted her pinky and gave it a twirl before smirking, "I have him under my control."

Glancing at the guards, she said, "Anyway, it was just a form to transfer guardianship of Jenny over to the state temporarily. With her uncle's records, I would have gotten it sooner or later."

Kai Xin shook her head at her mentor's 'misused' of Lord Rong's influence.

When Layla saw her expression, she chuckled,

"You have much to learn, my young protege. If the bad guys can use their money and backing to get out of trouble, I can use mine to get them back in trouble. Someone have to level the playing ground for those who can't play."

Kai Xin blinked. Somehow... the reasoning made sense. She had forgotten about Layla's unique way of arguing.

About 10 minutes later, Layla received the news that allowed her to proceed.

Walking proudly to the door, she ordered the guards to step aside.

The guards blocked her and one of them said,

"I'm sorry, miss. This room is off-limit. The guardian wants the child to get some rest."

Layla looked at them and in a haughty manner, she declared,

"I'm Layla Rong, a lawyer working for Zi Han Orphanage. The guardianship of the child had been transferred and she would be under our care from now on. My assistant would arrive with the documents later. You may leave now."

When the guards refused to move, Layla glared at them and said,

"If you refused to scram, then I would have to sue you for illegally imprisoning a minor."

The guards exchanged look among themselves. Layla tried to push past them but they restrained her.

Angered, she glared at them, "If you don't release me now, I would sue you for assault and battery."

The guards released her. However, they still refused to move. Layla made a fuss and got the director of the hospital to settle this.

Director Jang came running when he heard that Lord Rong's daughter was making a fuss.

However, when he realized the backing behind the guards, he started to sweat heavily.

Both sides were people he cannot afford to offend.

In the end, he chose to go against Layla.

"Miss Rong, I'm afraid we have to wait for the documents to arrive."

"Fine. By the way..." slurred Layla. She leaned closer to Director Jang, "...you know Du XiAn and I are close friends right?"

"Yes. How is President Du doing?"

She pointed to the child in the room and lowered her voice,

"That is his daughter. Due to certain circumstances, he cannot appear in person and he sent me to handle this."

Leaning back against the wall, she sighed,

"Looks like I will have to tell President Du that Director Jang told me to ignore the care and safety of his ONE and ONLY daughter."

Director Jang gulped and quickly wiped the beads of sweat on his forehead and around his neck.

If the child was indeed President Du's, then it would be problematic if he got angry and hold the hospital accountable.

Director Jang paced around the corridor as he gave it a thought, "Isn't he gay? But then... He has a pair of twins. Is he only gay now?"

When he saw Layla yawning, he quickly told his own set of security guards to hold the private guards back.

"I'm sorry about this, Miss Rong. Please go in. I would make sure that these ruffians don't bother you."

Layla flipped her hair and smugly said, "You had better or else..."

Sometimes, an unfinished sentence can have a massive effect.

Director Jang nodded profusely and told his security guards to throw the private guards out of the hospital.

Kai Xin waited for the door to close before asking wryly, "Is that why he has so many negative rumors?"

"Hey, when your best friend is President Du, you would want to milk him as much as you can."

Kai Xin frowned at how Layla was treating DX.

Layla was glad to see how defensive Kai Xin was getting about DX and with a smile, she patted her on the back,

"He has plenty of experience and he knows how to handle this kind of rumors. Trust me. Rely on him more and use him to your advantage."
