Chapter 2 - The Unspoken Rivalry

January 3rd, Han University's Corridor

Joohyun was walking towards her class while thinking back about what Bogum had said. It was indeed true that Baekhyun and her were close to each other. She would secretly talk to Baekhyun in her room and played around together even though she's not allowed to.

She's not someone that likes rebel against the elders, especially her father since she was grateful that Mr. Kim didn't throw her out when Mrs. Kim had passed away. She knows she was just an adopted child and the fact that Mr. Kim still took care of her till now was enough for her to know that at least he cared for her, even if it was just a little.

Because of that, Joohyun knows that what Mr. Kim said would be what she would follow but when Baekhyun started to follow Joohyun everywhere she went in the house like a dog trailing behind its owner, it was hard for her to keep calm and not burst out shouting at him.

Baekhyun being himself didn't realize he was being a nuisance to Joohyun by following her around since he just wanted to get to know her more. From what he heard from his mother, Joohyun was adopted by Mrs. Kim when she was still alive and since she was no longer alive, nobody cared for Joohyun and had been outcasted by the family.

"Noona... Why won't you talk to me? Can't you speak? Did something happen to your voice? Or maybe your ear? Can't you hear me?" The six-year-old Baekhyun ask the young Joohyun as he tugs on the hem of her dress worryingly.

Joohyun wonders why Baekhyun was so persistent on following her around even when it has been weeks that she ignore the latter. But as she hears Baekhyun calling her 'noona' and look at her with such worry, she sighs. She was helpless against Baekhyun looking like that and the fact that he called her 'noona' was what made her give in.

Joohyun looks at Baekhyun and gave him a slight smile before pulling him by the hem of his shirt to her room. Baekhyun was actually surprised by Joohyun action at first but he just followed her to wherever she wanted them to go to. As they reach her room, Joohyun went to lock the door and turn on a song on the speaker. She then sat on the bed and pat the area beside her, asking Baekhyun to sit.

"So, what did you want to talk about? What is it that you want to ask until you have to follow me everywhere?" Joohyun asks as she folded her legs on top of the bed and look at Baekhyun.

Baekhyun was stun. He didn't know Joohyun could speak. Since the time he came to the house till that moment, not once has Baekhyun heard Joohyun voice. So he and his mother assume that Joohyun couldn't talk or she couldn't hear, that's why she had never spoken a word nor made a sound at all.

"You can talk? Can you hear too? There's nothing wrong with, noona?" Young Baekhyun questioned, his expression was of disbelief as if he had seen an alien talking to him.

Hearing this, Joohyun let out a laugh that has never left her mouth once. She was surprised she knows how to laugh even when she had never done it before. Joohyun was somehow glad that Baekhyun had entered her family. Without him, she may never know how to laugh nor the feeling of laughing because of something.

"You sure are funny... You know, we are just one year apart. You don't exactly have to call me noona... Oh! and if you ever want to talk, come here and talk to me. And this a secret from everyone okay? Your mother too..." Joohyun warns as she chuckles and smiles at the Baekhyun that was still in the state of confusion.

As her mind was preoccupied with thoughts of earlier, she didn't realize that she had walked past her class and that it was soon to begin. That was not until she bumps into someone chest that she snaps out of her train of thought while falling flat on her butt. She was embarrassed by her action but she knew she was in the wrong and apologize to the person without taking a look at him.

Joohyun expected the person to scoff at her or be mad but while she was dusting herself, the person offers his hand to pull her up. At this time was when Joohyun realize that the person she had bumped into was one of her childhood friends, Oh Sehun. He was quiet and aloof and likes to be by himself but somehow, by some miracle, they understand each other better than anyone else and thus they created a close friendship with one another.

"Oh! It's you... Haha... I'm sorry I bumped into you. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going. I hope I didn't hurt you..." Joohyun was sorry towards Sehun.

This wasn't the first time that she bumps into him like this. In fact, it happens so often that she starts wondering whether the day was repeating itself. But since every time she bumps into him they would be wearing something different then the other time, that assured her that it was indeed a new day and she has once again bumped into him.

"It's okay. I've gotten used to it already. And since bumping into me helps to pull you back to reality, I don't mind it that much. While we're at that topic, our class had started a few minutes back. Do you want to skip it with me? It's Mr. Bernard's turn to teach Korean Literature this semester and I was debating whether to skip it or not. I mean, it's not like we can understand a word he says and as long as we pass the exam, our attendance won't make a difference."

Sehun gave Joohyun a look, asking if she was with him and she gave him a sly smirk. If she wasn't going to be notorious with Sehun, who else would she behave that way with? Skipping classes was one of those things that help relief Joohyun of her stress from home. Even if she were to be notorious, as long as she doesn't give her father trouble, she knew she was safe.

"And I thought you wouldn't ask. Let's go to the indoor garden and continue the project from where we left off. We almost finish it and it's been two months since we last made progress..." Soft giggles left Joohyun pink lips before both of them slowly sneak their way out of the classroom corridor.

But just as they thought they were safe from being caught, Joohyun met eyes with Bogum. He had his bag sling behind him as both his arm was occupied with carrying the staked of scoresheet for his music class. He was surprised to see Joohyun when he expected her to be in the class by now.

But as he saw Sehun beside her, he wasn't as surprised as he did before. He always knew Sehun was the culprit behind all the notorious things that Joohyun had done. Bogum knew Sehun was a bad influence on her and try to warn her several times but since it always made Joohyun mad, he never touches on any subject that relates to Sehun when he talks to her.

"Joohyun... Are you skipping classes again?! It's just the first day of the semester and you do stupid sh*t like this?! Why would you do such stupid things? It's not worth it!" Bogum words seem to trigger Joohyun to an extent that she slapped him right across his cheeks. Bogum was speechless. Joohyun had just slapped him and it's all because of that stupid jerk, Sehun.

He didn't know why, but the hatred he had for Sehun had just doubled because of Joohyun action. He didn't blame Joohyun but he blames Sehun since Joohyun was never one to act rationally like that. His eyes send a piercing glare at Sehun as he's about to declare war with him...
