Gene put on a dress and sit down to a big British breakfast. There was bacon, sausages, eggs, toast, mushrooms, beans, tomatoes and tea with milk and sugar. It was a lot but she ate it all.
Mom and Dad were here but her aunts were having their coffee while reading the paper. Not that they needed to read the news to know what happening. They were seers and could see the future.
"You are different," said Aunt Selene in a quiet way that said she meant business. "They will teach you things you know already or not. I just want you to act like the others. Don't stand out. Be friendly and nice."
"Okay," said Gene.
She tried to smile sweetly but could feel her magic pushing. It was getting worst each day. Mom said it was her power growing. Dad said it was because Gene was cursed.
Aunt Belladonna gave her a smile. "Good girl."
But what if she wasn't? What if she wasn't good?
She didn't feel so good so she asked, "May I be excused?"
Her aunts's gaze went to the food that Gene had left on the plate, but they didn't say anything about it and nodded.
Gene's backpack was an old hand me down from Diana who got a new one for her birthday. She had gifted it to Gene for her first day. It was nice but Gene really thought she'd like a new pink bag. But Grandma said she was being rude to turn down the generous gift. Mom had bought some new things like crayons and a notepad with lines.
In moments after Aunt Selene took her hand they were in the school. It was a very short trip. A few more steps and she looked out into the large playground. It was chain and magic.
"Are you ready?" asked Aunt Selene,
No. "Yes!"
"Okay, let's go."
Most walking around were a mixture of human or blood. The most unique person in the room was a little girl a bit taller than Gene, she had flaming red hair and red eyes. A descendant of the devil, they were incredibly rare and powerful.
