The red-haired lady jolted her head free from Samid's hands and shouted, "Hold your tears!!"
Everyone was surprised by her sudden action that even Samid didn't do anything out of curiosity.
"Humans were never made to cry because of desperation! You'll see your brother again!" With her hands tied behind her, she looked at the other girl as and smiled, "I promise..."
The other lady's eyes widened. Even though she wondered how this stranger knew her brother, all other feelings were automatically set aside because of the red-haired lady's proclamation. Though it seemed impossible, even though they were only false hopes, those were the words she wanted to hear── to see her brother yet again.
"BELIEVE IN ME!"
The red-haired lady was still looking towards her. Her smiling face changed to a fierce gaze like a bird of prey that was ready to pounce its small game. 'She's serious?!' She wondered were the confidence was coming from. But after seeing the red-haired lady, she realized something. A stranger was willing to go this far to help her. Why was she giving up? She and her brother lived a life of poverty. It was really hard for both of them and the thought that her brother would experience this alone after she's traded as a slave tore her heart. She can't give up! Not yet!
"Get ready to run!"
"Huh?" Samid wondered where all this was coming from. What more could they do? Two helpless girls escaping them? Ridiculous! It even made it sound more ludicrous how all the airs were coming from the one tied up.
While he was distracted, the girl he was holding by the head grasped his muscular hands and with all her might kicked her in the gut!
Samid became furious. He instinctively flexed his other arm and swung his dagger towards the girl's face.
Everything seemed frozen in time for the helpless lady. She grew conscious of her accelerating heart beat. The dagger that was swinging closer towards her seemed so slow that she thought she could avoid it but── she can't. Everything were all in her head. She will clearly die now. She felt foolish for believing. She might still live if only she came with them immediately but still, it was a shot she took for her brother. Though foolish, it was a shot worth taking. She closed her eyes and accepted her fate.
"Aaaaaah!!!"
What happened? She still lives? The brown-skinned lady opened her eyes and found the tip of Samid's dagger millimeters away from her eyes! She rolled her eyeballs a little to the side and found the red-haired lady's foot stopping Samid's arm from going further towards her face! The red-haired lady had raised her extended right leg high enough to block Samid's hand!
With another shout and with all her remaining strength, the red-haired lady forcefully made her raised leg do sweeping motion outward to the side, in a circular movement which resulted in Samid hitting his temple with the rear bolster of his dagger. Samid wanted to react but all he could do was flinch from the sudden pain.
Being hit was really painful. His dagger wasn't one of low quality compared to his henchmen's. The blade was an alloy of probably two to three metals and the hilt was boasting with copper filling and a very small green stone in the rear bolster. Never could he have thought that buying such a hefty weapon would be one day a compromise.
The red-haired lady wasn't done yet. Samid was still clenching the other lady's head like a ball. She quickly followed up with a weak tackle added with an elbow strike towards the gut yet again. Samid then released the brown-skinned lady because of the excruciating pain from the barrage of sudden attacks.
She couldn't believe it! She was free! The brown-skinned lady hyperventilated and tried to keep herself together as she fell on the sandy ground. But she didn't have time for other thoughts. Before she could fully grasp what had happened, the red-haired lady shouted once again.
"Run!"
Without second thoughts, the brown-skinned lady crawled to get up. But before she could fully stand, she grabbed the nearest pieces of bread around and then hugged them really tight. After her first attempt to stand erect, she slightly hit the wall. Her feet were still shaking from fear but that didn't stop her. Without managing to stand properly, without looking back, she hurriedly ran for he life away from the dark alley and left the red-haired lady alone with Samid and his crew.
