As the conflict was resolved, let us try to look at things from Georgina's end.
When Cody started caressing her in the garden, she told herself to just forsake everything she thought of in the study and simply go along with the flow. Besides, this man is her husband and her desire for him is undeniable.
There are a lot of things their marriage is not, but, the one thing she is sure of is that the physical attraction is way too strong. She spent the last five months keeping him at arm's length because she realized that anywhere closer could spell disaster.
A sweet kind of disaster that will leave both of them breathless and shirtless and tangled on a heap of cloth in the form of their bed linens. The kind of havoc that would put the face of anyone entering the room afterwards aflame as telltale signs of carnal carnage lay around along with the unmistakable scent of lust.
That is the main reason she is steering away. Adding the fact that she is not intending to have a real relationship with him, the need to keep the distance was even reinforced.
In the past months, she already saw how easy it would be for anyone, including herself to fall for Cody. He was thoughtful, sweet, generous, considerate, among others. He is also naturally handsome, talented and intelligent. He's one hell of a package.
For her, stopping herself from developing feelings for him would benefit the both of them. She knows she lacks the necessary attributes of someone who would be successful in the romantic aspect. She is pretty much aware of how plain she looks and how boring her ways are. She has never been a looker, really. She is unexciting. In other words, she doesn't have anything at all to contribute to a healthy marriage. She would never deserve a Cody.
She is better off keeping to herself. Doing the things she was good at. Doing things alone. Doing things without relying on somebody. A somebody that would cross oceans to appease her. A somebody that would silently stand by her side when she needs some peace and quiet.
She kept thinking about her previous marriage. Maybe it failed because she was way too detached, or maybe the exact opposite, she was too clingy. She still couldn't pinpoint what went wrong. And unless she is able to name that, she won't be worth anyone else's attention. She is not worth Cody's attention.
That sense of self was the kind she nursed eversince she noticed her marriage crumbling. She fed it with every little fault she could see in herself. She fertilised it with every shortcoming and naturally, it bloomed into self-blame and a feeling of worthlessness.
When with people, she carried herself so confidently. When alone, however, she dives into a state that is truly pitiful. Gone would be the woman who wears a bright smile and sincerely lifts everyone up. In its place is a girl who is so afraid to do anything to bring her closer to any man. A girl so broken inside, she doesn't even know where some bits of her have gone.
