Chapter 54 - Chapter 10: Damian

Emily took a bite from her sandwich, while she felt Hailey shooting daggers at her from her eyes.

"Uh oh, she is mad." Emily thought before rigidly taking another bite. After swallowing hard, she forced a smile and asked, "Erm... Hailey, aren't you going to eat? Your food is going to get cold."

Her best friend gave a her a glare before intimating her, "Erm... Emily, aren't you going to give me an explanation? You friend is being left out in the cold."

Laughing nervously, she replied while averting her eyes, "I guess you can say he is my stepbrother. Yeah, that's it--"

"When?" Her Best Friend questioned without letting her finished, "You told me nothing about him."

"Hahaha... Yeahhhh, about that..."

At this moment, the memories of him came flooding back like a videotape, causing her glaze saddened a little, "I just didn't want to think about his leaving you know? He is someone really REALLY important and he was a sensitive topic. I just didn't have the courage to talk about him."

Hailey noticed a hint of sadness in Emily's voice and remained silent to let her continue, "But, he's back now. So, it's fine now." She ended with a slight smile.

"I see, so he will be living with you?" Hailey asked, trying to shift away from the heavy topic.

"Yeah, probably."

"Does Patricia know about him?"

"Mm-hmm." She responded with a mouth full of bread.

"So, am I allow to come over today?"

Emily looked over to Back and Mary, as if she was asking them if there was a need to return to Fiore. Mary smiled in response, telling her that it was fine for her to stay on Earth for today.

With that, she swallowed her food and nodded, "Sure, I might need some help to unpack Demian's stuff."

Giving her a look of disgust, Hailey spat out, "I don't want to help him."

"Even though, he is kind of my stepbrother?"

She forcefully stabbed her fork in her plate of pasta and furrowed her eyebrows, "Well, yeah. He did not have my permission to do have his lips on you."

"I'm shocked too. He has completely changed... Especially, his appearance." Emily muttered so silently as if it was just for herself to hear.

"Ah, whatever. I'll help if you want to, I can't say no to little O' Emily, can I? Oh yeah, we should watch this movie back at Patricia's." Hailey suggested as she showed Emily the screen of her smartphone.

She took a quick glance on the screen before nodding in agreement.

The four of them finished their food as soon as possible before the bell rings. They went to class to have their lessons which, thankfully, went normally. There was nothing more she could wish for, but a peaceful day, after everything that happened in the past few weeks. She just missed those days where she would head back to Patricia's with Hailey and they would just spent their time watching movies while eating gallons of ice cream.

However, things happened and she did not really have a choice, she was just born with that title. Well, whether something might happen or not, she could only treasure this peaceful period of time.

After a few hours of class went by, it was finally time to free them from their containment.

"Emily! Let's gooooo!" Hailey said as she went to Emily's table, "I'm so excited! It feels as if it has be--"

Hailey words were interrupted by another voice that boomed throughout the classroom.

"Young lady! Can we go now?"

Emily looked up to see Damian behind her best friend. Hailey turned behind and grimaced at the sight of him. She darted her eyes from his head to his toes, like one of those mean girls. She then returned her attention back to Emily, "Anyways, as I was saying... BEFORE I WAS RUDELY INTERRUPTED!" She shouted back.

She did it without looking at Damian, giving him a cold shoulder. She cleared her throat before continuing, "What I'm trying to say here is that, it felt as if it had been forever, since we did something like this."

"Hey, seriously. What did I ever do to you?" Damian as he folded his arms unamusingly, "Have I ever offended you in any ways?"

"Come on, let's go Emily." Hailey said as she pulled Emily's arm, completely ignoring Damian.

"H-Hey!" Before he could continued, the two girls walked far ahead of him.

"...Why are girls so hard to deal with?"

Just then, he felt a light tap on his shoulder. He turned to see two familiar faces.

"You're Damian, right?" Mary clarified with a smile.

"Yeah. Oh right, you two were with her just now. You must be her friends." He replied with a similar smile.

Mary nodded and questioned further, "So, I heard you're her stepbrother?"

"Well, not legally. But, I guess you can say something like that."

"Ah, I see." She let out as she took the lead and walked in front of the two other guys.

"Strange, I have no idea who this guy is. But, why is he... How should I put it, weird? Maybe I'm just thinking too much... If Emily trust him, then I'll have no choice, but to do so as well."

The three made their way down the stairs to catch up to Emily and Hailey. However, those two girls were long gone. Damian then walked out of the school's premises and into the bustling street to make his way to Patricia's.

After a few turns, he realised that Beck and Mary was keeping themselves in his shadow. "Are they following me? I don't think Emily invited them, did she?"

He paused and calmly turned to them, "Erm... Are you guys going this way, Or..."

"Welllllll." Mary dragged the word for no reason whatsoever, "We wanted to help Emily with the unpacking of your things."

"Oh." Damian replied almost silently, as if he did not want them to come along.

Well, he did not.

Not a single bit.

"You can just ignore us though." Mary shrugged, "We aren't going to get in your way if you don't want us to."

He tried to remain composed and think of a quick reply, "What? No. I don't mean it that way. It's cool and all, I'm just shocked."

He then continued with a forced smile, "Thanks for the help I guess."

Just then the a ringing sound was heard from Mary's pocket. She reached for a pocket and pulled out the latest smartphone. "Err... How does this work again?" She whispered to herself as her eyes darted around the screen of the communication device.

Even though she did not want anyone to her it, her quiet whispers were still picked up by Damian's sharp ears.

The ringing lasted for another good fifteen seconds before it got annoying to Damian's ears.

He slid his finger across the touch screen, picking up the call, "Let's just going to say you're just not used to this new device."

Mary laughed uneasily and agreed, "Yeahhhhh..."

She then made an instantaneous turn to a corner of a street to answer the call.

"Who is this?"

"Oh, Mary. You actually answered it."

She immediately figured out who it was just by the sound of his carefree voice.

It was Ben.

"What do you want? That's no way you called me just for this, right?"

"Well, partially."

"I'm going to hang up if you don't tell me what you really want."

"Do you know how to hang up though?"

She remained silent. Honestly, she did not know how to.

Laughing, he answered, "I'm going to take that as a 'no'. Fine, I'll cut to the chase. Where are you guys going? If you're not heading to Fiore."

"...We are going to Emily's place." Mary uttered with a hint of anger, as she resisted her urge to throw her phone on the ground to make Ben's voice disappear.

"Alright, for...?"

Mary told Ben about Damian and how both Beck and herself are going to help the unpacking of his stuff.

"Damian..." Ben muttered out.

For some reason, his voice was cold when he said that. That itself sent a chill down her spine, "...Yeah, what's wrong?"

"It's nothing. Anyways, we are coming. Alright? Bye."

"Wait, 'we'? Who are yo--"

Sadly, the call ended, leaving a long 'beep' sound.

"I wasn't done. How dare he... He's going get it from me..." She mumbled to herself.

Damian noticed her behaviour and asked, "Um... Are you okay?"

Mary quickly retained an innocent smile, which seemed a little scary, "Hmm? Of course, I'm fine."

"...Just fine." Her last two words was oddly emphasised.

...Just then, they swore that they felt a gust of cold air.

"Man, girls are scary." Damian thought before the three made their way down the street to Patricia's.
