Chapter 2 - Will's everyday life

If someone were to walk up to me someday and ask, "If you could become king of your own country, what sort of kingdom would you build?" I'd say I wouldn't become king in the first place. I'm quite content with the current life I'm living and no amount of riches would persuade me to give it up. I'm sure everyone else in the village feels the same. Our village is made up of about 50 or so families, which means everyone knows everyone and there is this sense of closeness. Everyone lives in huts and we get our food from the animals we farm, as well as the vegetables we grow and fresh water from the well. No one person owns anything, so we all work together to make ends meet. It is a simple life, but one that goes by peacefully. "Hey Will! Didn't I ask you to get water so that I can get breakfast ready?" Oh that's right, I was busy running an errand for my mom.

After breakfast, I set out into the village to look for ideas on how to spend the day. While drifting around, I happened to spot Christa. She was a popular girl in the village who for some reason became friends with me. When the red headed girl spotted me, she immediately ran over. She sure seemed excited. "Heeey!" she shouted, bumping her shoulder into mine. "You sure have a lot of energy first thing in morning." I told her. She then told me while giggling, "Its not first thing in the morning, and isn't the start of the day when you usually have the most energy? You sure say some strange things." Well yeah, I guess she was right. Why didn't I share her enthusiasm though? "Hey, hey. Notice anything different today?" She asked, looking pleased with herself. It was obvious she was speaking about her chest, I mean she was practically shoving it in my face. "Now that you mention it, the mornings have been getting colder. Winter sure is coming." She wasn't saying anything so I looked at her face to see why, and she had this sullen look on her face. Since she wasn't saying anything, I decided to continue my aimless journey. After a while though, it got annoying being followed by Christa while she stared daggers into my back. So I quickly bribed her by promising to bake bread for her the next chance I got.

We finally decided to go to the river. Truth be told, the village isn't very big, so the walk only took like 15 or so minutes. Right now, we were siting and watching the stream flow by slowly. "Hey, how old are you?" Christa suddenly asked me. "I'm 15, you should know, we are the same age after all." I said, not hiding the annoyance in my voice. "And what can you say you've done in all that time? Nothing right?" She asked while looking the river. "Don't you ever wish life could be a bit more exciting? I do. I mean, life in the village is peaceful and all, but its sooooo boring!" Ah, she gets like this sometimes, I think she just isn't suited for living in the village. "You're a boy aren't you? Don't you want adventure? Even you must be sick of this village life. Wake up, eat, do chores, eat, sleep and then you get to do it all again the next day." She rolled her eyes as she said the last part. I didn't say anything, because Christa usually just vents like this and then things go back to normal.

After a while she looked at me and said she had chores to go do. She left, and I continued to sit and stare at the river. I went on home after a while too, feeling like I was forgetting something.

I was sitting at the dinner table across from my mom, a hand print still on my cheek. Turns out I had chores to do too, and I was late so my mom got somewhat violent with me. When I finally finished what I had to do around the house, it was already dinner time. My mom seemed to be in a good mood. I could tell because she made curry. She always makes curry when she is feeling happy. Something good must have happened. Not wanting to ruin her mood, I just ate silently while looking at her happy expression. My mom is a beautiful woman. I don't have a mother complex or anything, I just really think that. Her hair reached her shoulders and she never tied it. This coupled with her clear blue eyes really caught the eyes of the men around the village.

"Hey, don't you think you should marry Christa already? You guys are always together, and I'm eager for grandchildren." I almost choked on my food when she said that. "How can you want grandchildren when your own child isn't even grown up yet?" "Children are only cute when they are small. Besides, you are of age already, so just do it already!" Hey, why did I suddenly see a threatening aura rise up behind you during that last part? "Nn not just yet Mom, there's no need to rush right?" I tried to run away fro the situation.

After dinner, I had a bath and got into bed. I wondered what tomorrow would be like. The same I guess. Looks like Christa was right, everyday life is somewhat boring, isn't it.
