Chapter 54 - Ark 3: Fluttering Change part 3

Lovell ran down the halls hoping for the best. Lance and Gale turned to each other, unsure if Lovell was really on their side like what the king and Mama k. had said or was just a facade to not let Lovell be killed. Either way, they felt trust diminish slightly. Scarlett and the twins grew weary of Lovell after the ordeal. Not sure if to trust him or not, Fang, on the other hand, felt as if history was repeating. Their father going through the same but coming out on the other side of the war.

Lovell could feel the distrust and Skepticism glaring behind him. He knew words were not enough nor actions, only time could tell the answer for them all. Clenching his heart, Lovell knew the only choice he had was to keep on moving forward and have hope for the future that they could understand what he was going through. That Lovell was not like his father, nor his grandfather.

They reach the portal to the southern border, Lovell stopped and let the others go before him waiting for Kratos. As Kratos and his men approached, Kratos gave the order to go ahead. His men rushing past Lovell. He stood silently as Kratos approached him.

"How bad was it?" Lovell's voice grew dark.

Kratos stood beside him, "Bad enough that I want to kill you where you stand."

Kratos entered the portal, leaving Lovell left standing. His heart ached at the thought. He mustered what little courage he had and passed through the portal. The familiar smell of blood and charred remains filled the air. Lovell shuddered before heading off. The memories of the destruction of Blacklight flashed before him. Every step Lovell took, the sounds of men and woman fighting echoed through the branches. Lovell blocked an attack from his left, then killing him. Lovell could see the others striking down the Faremin soldiers, one after another. The world felt still as fear gripped him.

Another soldier went to strike him when Zero blocked his attack. Lovell turned to him, seeing the determination in his eyes.

"Lovell snap out of it if you want to live." Zero scolded Lovell, "I might not trust you, but you are still a living being and a warrior." He pushes the soldier back, "For your own sake, fight like your life depends on it!"

Lovell slapped his face, snapping him back to why he was doing this — shoving the fear down his throat. Drawing his sword and striking down the next soldier, Zero glanced at him, smiling briefly before focusing back on the battle.

Zephyr cast one spell after another, taking ten to twenty Faremin soldiers at a time., Scarlett using a whip, disarmed them, allowing Lance to get in close and strike. Gale transformed into his were form, using lightning magic, he struck down as many as he could before looking back.

He noticed Kratos rushing to his direction. Changing back, he turned to Kratos, "Where's Lovell at?"

Kratos gritted his teeth. "He's here in the battle, but I don't know where he is?"

Gale shifted his arm, striking down another soldier. Kratos drew his bow, killing one from behind Gale. "Thanks, but we need Lovell for magic support. His spells are much more powerful than Zephyr's."

Kratos could not disagree, he felt an uneasy feeling in the pit of his stomach. "Let's hope nothing too bad happens."

Lovell huffed as Zero grabbed his shoulder. "Lovell, are you alright?"

He glanced up at Zero, "Yeah, I more of a magic type than a combat type, but that does not mean I can not do both." Lovell closed his eyes, listening to the battle. He could tell that the Faremin forces were winning. As if a warm light beaming down him, he felt strange, as if the hope that they will win against the odds was in his grasp. Lovell opened his eyes, staring towards the middle of the battlefield. "Zero."

"What is it, Lovell?" Zero asked him as he pulled out his Ren-Ky sword and shield.

"I am heading to the center to stop this battle."

Zero grabbed Lovell's shoulder, "Are you insane?" He yelled at Lovell. "You will get killed!"

Lovell shook him off, then transformed into his beast form. He glanced at Zero. "It's the only way." Zero tried to stop him before Lovell dashed off to the center. Zero yelled something, but Lovell could not hear him. "I am sorry, but this is the only way to stop this."

Lovell jumped into the center. "Lord Azoth has come to help!" one of the soldiers called out.

The battle that surrounded him seceded. The faremin soldiers overjoyed to see him, while the Evermore forces stepped back in fear. Lovell closed his eyes; his body became covered in a warm light. The Faremin effects joy quickly turn into unease, as Lovell let the aura cover the battlefield. The Evermore forces filling with hope, Fang turned to see what was going on. He noticed a large black wolf, with a single blade-like horn standing in the middle of the fight. The rest of the Lovells gang took notice as Zero ran towards him. No one knew what was going on until Lovell whipped his eyes open, and the light bursting out. Blinding the Faremin, Lovell lifted his head and then howled. The Evermore forces charged striking down most of the Faremin. Fang stood there, staring at Lovell as he turned back into his mortal form, his true mortal form.

After hours passed, Lovell watched as the men sifted through the dead and piling them up. They pulled tags off each of their soldiers. Lovell felt sick seeing the amount of dead around him.

Fang walked up to him, glaring at him. "That was very foolish, but it worked somehow."

Lovell smiled, "I knew it was, but I had faith it would work out. Hope is something that I—" Lovell stopped, staring at his hands. "Fang, have I gotten any stronger since you met me?"

Fang huff at him, "No, your power levels are unchanged compared to the others. I don't know what is holding you back, but I do know it will get you killed one day."

Lovell knew that what Fang had said was true. The king joined the men, giving a victory speech about it was not the end. Lovell knew what he had to do to move on. That was to find Hunter and tell him how he felt about him, and to keep a promise of saving him from the Faremin.

Lovell met with the king and told him his plan to find the resistance. Vail opposed the idea, but Lovell had told him that all will work out. He also told him about Hunter.

"What is your view of Hunter? He is the one who killed Morris, and had a hand in killing Ark?"

Lovell closed his eye. "I know, but more than anything, he is my brother."

Vail furrowed his brow. "Brother?"

Lovell nodded. "Yes, when you think of it, he is related to me through blood. Despite not inheriting both the theyan and beastman bloodlines."

Vail turned to his men. "Lovell that may be true but be real, Hunter is a clone. True, he is your clone but remembers what he has—" Vail stopped, seeing Lovells resolve in his eyes, he sighed. "Very well, then. I will not stop you."

Lovell stood up. "By the way, Lord Vail." He turned to him. "I decided we are leaving tomorrow morning."

Vail sat down, looking up at Lovell. "Where to?"

Lovell smiled, "Vailrose."
