Chapter 47 - battlefield (3)

Before Harumi got an arrow in her shoulder she could hardly swing the sword so she couldn't use it anymore. Since it was so heavy she decided to toss it away. It would only slow het down, and she still had the pistol. When they arrived at the next cannon even more enemies came running. Everyone in her platoon was fighting so it was up to her to disable the cannon. With one arm she didn't have the strength to yank out the firing pin. Violently she kept kicking it until it came loos. As soon as she turned around she saw an enemy soldier coming towards her. She could see his killing intent in his eyes and there was nobody to protect her. She fumbled a bit to draw the pistol. Once she finally had a good grip she aimed, closed her eyes and shot. Since almost no one had a fire arm everyone was fighting with swords and the bang that her gun produced cut through the air. Harumi still had her eyes closed, she didn't dare to open them. She hoped she hadn't missed, for her own safety but at the same time she feared the idea that she had hit the man.

"We have to go!" Someone from her platoon shouted while he pulled her away. Harumi's legs slowly began moving and she opened her eyes only after she was at full speed. Harumi's back was wet and on her forehead glistered beads of sweat. They had been running and fighting the whole time and Harumi had a hard time to keep up. She used to be in top shape and she would run every day but since she came to the past she had mostly just lazed around. She wasn't allowed to walk faster than a hasty speed. Not that running or something like that was even possible in the kimono's she wore every day. Her whole body hurt from exhaustion, or all the blows she had received but she kept going. She knew what she had to do and she would complete her task no matter what.

There were only a few cannons left for them to destroy. At these last cannons the enemy seemed to be spread out more. Not that she minded. It became harder and harder for her to remove the firing pins from the cannons. With less enemies nearby, some of her platoon members could help her. Just as Harumi was about to kick the firing pin again she got hoisted up in the air. She screamed and tried to grab her gun.

"Don't wiggle so much otherwise I'll drop you!" A familiar voice shouted from above.

"Nobu?" Harumi asked while she yanked her head up and saw Nobunaga riding a horse. His long hair that was normally perfectly groomed looked at the moment more like the mane of a wild lion.

"I'm here, your safe." Nobunaga answered while he still held her as if she were a big bag of rice. Without any warning he tossed her in the air. All the air disappeared from Harumi's lungs. Before she could scream she was caught by someone else.

"Toshiie, get her back to the castle and come back." Nobunaga barked an order to one of his most trusted warlords that had just caught Harumi. He put her before himself on his horse and galloped away.

"Don't just trow me you thick boy!" Harumi yelled back at Nobunaga she they galloped away. The only response she heard Was Nobunaga's deep laugh trough the glaring sound of war. She didn't really mind though. As soon as she had seen Nobunaga her worries had faded away. She was sure the Togashi clan wouldn't be able to take the castle. And since her husband was here, they wouldn't need her anymore, with all the soldiers here she would only be in their way so she didn't mind going back to the castle. With her good arm she tried to hold on to the saddle while Toshiie's horse galloped at the castle but she would have fallen of the horse a few times if Toshiie hadn't pulled her back at the last second.
