Chereads / Astaroth: Path to Ascension / Chapter 20 - The price of knowledge.

Chapter 20 - The price of knowledge.

Countless beings of a myriad race, where moving all around, the place was more lively than the hugest city he had seen, lively and bigger. As Akin set a foot inside hundreds or thousands of gaze fell upon him, it was not he being that wondrous, it was because of his Spiritual Sense, as he always had it active, all those beings in the more of half kilometer he could reach felt they were being watched and reacted at that.

"I am sorry for the misunderstanding i am still new to all this". Conveyed Akin in all directions making a slighty respecteful bow.

Most of the affected choose to ignore the event, as that would be common with some newcommers, still he received lot of responses, some clarifying, some threatening, he understood he would likely felt offended too is someone tried to scan over him without previous warning nor permission. Still he took a moment to control his Spiritual Sense as to avoid anyone else and deligthed with the sight.

The place was even shinier than the starry sky without moon or clouds, all constructions were golden colored, even the roads, and what seemed as precious stone were ornamating the place everywhere. The trees in the park around looked like came out of a dream along with the tiny flying persons around them which voices could sweep all worries from you.

"Wondeful, isn't?" A sweet voice pulled Akin back to reality.

"As is sir fist time visiting a main brach? Would you like me to act as your guide?". Asked the middle aged woman.

"It would be my pleasure". Replied Akin while seizing up the woman.

It seemed as this place didn't scatimated even a bit when it came to rope a potential client, and they knew how to attract people, even the guide could be described as the crop of the cream. She was a middle age woman, to the standards Akin knew, she should be around the late thirties but her body and demeanor give her a charm which made impossible ignore her, even with all the fortitude Akin's mind had because of his soul power. If not for him living besides a 'goddess' for most of his life, he would forget about what he come here for and would go for having his ways with the guide instead. Despite, a guide would be very useful in fact, because of the size of this place, who would know how much time would take him to found what he was looking for.

"Thanks then, i am Biba, and would act as your guide this time. First there are two things you need to know, inside our establishments fights aren't allowed, those who don't abide will be punished harshly. Second, and more important, as long as you can pay we can provide anything you want. " Said she coquettishly

"And as for where we are? This is the main branch of the ZoneName zone, every customer in this zone who met some potential parameters are brought here for free the first time, subsequent visits are up to you, or you should pay the right price to being brought again. More details about our services are here inside" Said she, throwing a stone-like object to Akin.

"Just send your Spiritual Sense inside" She added noticing Akin's confusion

The stone-like object was something wonderful, as soon as Akin's Spiritual Sense went in, lots of information ran to his mind. It was detailed information about the rules and services of Mammon's Greed, the rules were few but very stricts and the services, well he may no end anytime soon of looking through them, it was just what the guide told him, as long as you could pay the right price anything was in stock, even the guide which can be deemed as an extra enticement.

Staring at the guide's buttocks swaying he looked through the information provided as he was led to an empty room, he wondered how it could appear so fast with so many people around. He didn't knew that even if he were to wait for someone to enter a room and then he followed suit, unless he was a partner of that person, he would be send to an empty room, this was basic as part of the privacy policies which he had yet to read.

The 'room' could be considerated a house or maybe a small mansion by itself, and Akin doubted even kings had something as luxurious for they to enjoy. Stepping inside, she had already served some wine which she offered him before asking him, "What kind of knowledge are you looking for?".

Akin's was caught by surprise momentarily when he heard her as he never said what he was looking for, but for an organization able to built a place like this or 'transporting' people here from whereever they were to here, guessing his goal shouldn't be that hard. The guide's guess was one of the traits of the Greed Law, it gave pointers of how to obtain the hugest profit, and because of Akin low power level it also showed his objective, but Akin woudn't knew about it until future.

Akin looked to a good amount of items during the way here and the conclusion was simple, knowledge was expensive, unreasonable expensive. He was expecting something alike even where he came from, knowledge had never been cheap but here the price of it where something maybe few people could afford.

"I want a map from the zone the bigger the better, i also need general information about this world, souls, spiritual energy, spirits, blessings, gods, destiny, the ways of become stronger, demonic beasts, plants..." Akin voiced out a lot of things he was ingnorant about and were critical for him, almost anything in this world. "I would like also to make you my attendant for at least a year and please i would like your advice in how to make the purchase cheaper".

Asking the one who will sell you the goods how to make a buy cheaper may seems delusional but besides the fact that was her jobs, if he contract her for a year she would be earning even more than the possible comission for Akin's purchases.

"As you may know by now, most of things you have required couldn't be adquired with gold, no matter the amount and that include the map and my contract as exclusive attendant of you. Mammon's Greed provide currencies for this kind of transactions and the ability to produce those currencies by yourself, take this please". She say handing over to like-coin objects to Akin.

He looked curiously at the two objects, both looked like coins without any imprint and instead had a little rectangle in the middle which currently displayed the number zero. Akin used his Spiritual Sense to examine both objects but he found nothing besides the feelling of soul power in one of them.

"Those two are Gatherers, they allow you to transform life force and soul power into Life Coins and Soul Coins, one unit of each is equivalent to a mortal's human life force or a mortal human's soul respectively, furthermore a Soul Coin worth is nearly one hundred Life Coins. Now let me tell you, just the map would cost you around six hundred Soul Coins and my contract a little more than five thousands Soul Coins. And as how to make the purchase cheaper, you could just buy basic information in some matters and fillthe gasp with kowledge from the mortals worlds, it wouldn't be the same but could provide you with insights. Are you still interested in making a purchase?". She asked with a smile after giving the explanation to Akin.

And this was what make knowledge extremely precious here, in his old world it was expensive but you could still buy it with gold if you had the right amount, here it cost was akin to the amount of power or lifes required to adquire such knowledge. In others words, knowledge was only for those who were strong enough to reap lifes as easy as reaping grass or who were able to obtain treasures of great value. Ironic enough, or maybe not, power needed knowledge to be earned, knowledge required power to be adquired, and for now, he didn't any of both.

Suddenly the number in one of Akin Gatherers, shift from zero to fifty thousand shocking the guide, and even Akin himself. She never thought, this customer would be able to produce such sum and even Akin himself didn't thought of it, when he first started looking through the 'stone' she gave him with the information about the 'organization', he learned about the currencies and decided to turn, the less than half of the wisp of divinity he hadn't refined yet into money or he wouldn't be able to purchase anything.

Anyways, he wouldn't be able to really benefit from the wisp of divinity if he didn't knew what it was for, but such amount of Soul Coins just for the half of the wisp of divinity? Does it mean he had absorbed over fifty thousand human souls worth of soul power ? Of course not or he should be incredible powerful by now, but as ignorant as he was he didn't knew how wonderful a wisp of divinity was, and of course it price amounted to such sum.

"Of course i am but let's make the contract first". Replied Akin also smiling.
