Chapter 37 - Turning [Naomi]

Why didn't they just change the wallpaper already? I mean, it was old, and stained to the point where I didn't even know what color it was supposed to be. I was watching something on the TV, I didn't really know what, probably just some mindless cartoon as background noise. There was a knock at the door. "JUST A SECOND!" I put on a pair of shoes and a white jacket, and looked through the window. There was a guy standing there. He had shoulder-length, black hair. He was extremely muscular, and tall. He reminded me of this drawing I made of Dwayne Johnson fused with Bob Marley. I opened the main door, but latched the lock on the screen door. "Who are you?" He looked at the house, then walked away. I closed the door, and locked it all the way. "Weird."

A few hours later, there was a noise outside. I looked, and there wasn't anything there. I went back to what I was doing, when suddenly, the guy from earlier burst in from the window. "What the fu-" He ran toward me, but I rolled out the the way. I got a better look at him, he was wearing all black, and carrying a gun, as well as a pair of black-painted brass knuckles. "Oh shit, it's the Black Hoops!" He threw a punch, but I narrowly avoided it. His fist got stuck in the wall. "Now's my chance," I whispered to myself. I ran upstairs and grabbed my dad's shotgun.

The guy ran toward me again, but this time, I shot him. Three shots. Bang! Bang! Bang! He fell down. I stopped, and caught my breath. Then, I felt something grab me. "What the-" The guy was behind me. "Watch where you're-" I felt something go around my neck. Was it his hands? No, those were still groping me. "WHAT DO-" I started feeling light headed, "You think you're do-" I passed out.

I woke up in my bed, breathing heavily "It was just a dream." I looked around. The guy was sitting in a chair next to my desk. "No, it wasn't. And hey, good and bad news." His voice was deep, even for his build, "It's a two for one deal. Ready? You're a Vampire now." I got up, and threw a punch at him. He grabbed my arm, and snapped the bone. I screamed, then tried kicking him. Again, he just grabbed my leg, and snapped the bone like a toothpick. I screamed again, and fell to the ground in defeat. "That should be healed in a few minutes." He jumped out the window. I managed to crawl over to the window, only to find that he was nowhere to be seen.

I woke up again, breathing just as heavily. "Was it a dream?" I stabbed a pencil in my arm, and this time, I felt the pain. "Good." Almost immediately, the wound healed. Pisces looked up at me, "What the-" I sighed, "Great, now I have a witness." She laughed, "It's fine, I won't tell people you wake up in a panic and stab yourself." I looked at her, "So, what's up with your arm?" She looked down at her right arm, "It's a, long, story."

"Well," I rubbed my eyes, "I've got time. Not like I'm gonna go to sleep any time soon now." She giggled a little, "Sure. Just, get down here. I don't want to wake Scorpio up." I slid off my bed on the make-shift cot we created for Pisces to sleep on.

"It all started when Scorpio and I were just kids. Our dad was always on business trips. So, we never really knew him that well. Our mom on the other hand, she worked as a writer, so she was at home most of the time. If there was anyone we saw as a supernatural being at the time, it was her. She would managed to take care of us, write, and help cook, without showing the smallest sign of stress. Then, one day, we got some news from our dad. She died. A random mugger hand ran into her at a book signing in New York City, and shot her, hoping for money. All he got though, was guilt, as he used her phone to call the police on himself, and was given a death sentence on his own accord.

When we heard this news, we were devastated. Scorpio, being older, comprehended the situation better, and didn't leave her room for almost a month. Our dad fell into a depression, the only thing that kept him going was the company, and his faith in that was quickly plummeting. So, one day, I decided to do something. Our grandma had a huge library in our house, and one of the books was on necromancy. I showed it to Scorpio, and if I could see someone's face light up like the way hers did that day, I'm not sure I'd be able to handle it.

That same day, we cleared out one of the rooms in hour house, and began the ritual. Using pictures, memories, and our psychic abilities, we managed to bring her back, or at least," her voice started breaking, "we thought so. She had a physical form, but her mind was broken, and she had no soul. She lashed out at us, no care for our lives like she once had. In the struggle, she popped Scorpio's eye, leading to her being able to read minds subconsciously, and she destroyed my arm. I lived with it scared for years, unable to properly use it, but last year, I decided to get it amputated, and now I'm here. Luckily, my family's fortune and a little magic allow it to seem as real as possible, but I still have no feeling, and it does feel rather, leathery."

I wiped my eyes, "Sorry, I just-" She sighed, "Yeah, I know. We've been fine since then, but still, sometimes I wish I could see her again. I know Scorpio does too, but she's too stubborn to admit." She looked at me, "So, what's your story?"

I told her how I turned, and she gave the same reaction as Scorpio. "Yes, I know, that was someone related to Dracula, blah, blah. But it's still a traumatic event for me, especially now that he's decided to force himself back into my life." She looked at me. "I know that look. Scorpio has that-" She leaned forward and hugged me. "Yup, that's the one." I wrapped my arms around her too, "Try to get some sleep."
