Things at Mimi's company for the next few days went smoothly. The work given to Emilia was limited for a day until she was fully recovered. Afterward, everything went back to normal.
The employees, however, after hearing what happened to Emilia became more considerate and spoke to her more, encouraging and praising her.
Majority of the time when others praised her, it had been for her money or her father's wealth and fortune.
But this time, things were different.
They were praising her not because of her father or her money, but for something she achieved by herself. Hearing their kind words and praises brought a warm, fuzzy lightness to Emilia's heart.
Nearly a month of working there, Mimi decided to bring the girl outside of the company to accompany her on meetings and business deals with other companies. She thought it was about time Emilia was shown what took place behind the scenes.
When Emilia was informed of her new task, she couldn't help but feel nervous.
What if she messed up? What if she embarrassed Andras in front of everyone?
Jean, noticing the girl's apparent nervous expression smiled gently.
"There's no need to worry, Andras has assured you won't be partaking in anything until you're ready. Your main job is to watch from the side and take notes."
Despite Emilia's previous bitterness toward Jean, over the past few weeks, the two became moderately close. Her previous sour feelings toward Jean had dispersed.
However, they would occasionally ignite once in a while when she saw her with Andras, but overall the two developed a seemingly close friendship.
"Hmph! Does he think I can't handle more than just taking notes?" Emilia crossed her arms and huffed.
"My apologies. If you still feel that way, I'm sure Andras can quicken the pace of your training for you."
Emilia's smirk froze in place. "Ah...that won't be necessary. As a loyal employee, I'll follow Andras's original plans. Even if it slows me down I wouldn't want to hindrance him."
"I understand."
Noticing the smile on Jean's face, Emilia scowled and walked away. Jean shook her head in response.
They still had a long way to go.
...
In the back seat of Mimi's private car, Jean drove in the front while Emilia and Mimi sat in the back. While Jean was reciting Mimi's schedule, Mimi, with her chin propped on her palm, gazed out the window with quiet eyes.
Emilia, sitting beside her couldn't help but feel nervous - her fingers occasionally twitching from time to time.
"You're just writing down notes and watching on the side. No need to be nervous, doll face."
"Eh?"
Emilia darted her gaze toward Mimi who was resting against the car window with shut eyes.
"We'll be going to a total of three companies. For the first two, you'll be following me and taking notes. For the last company, I'll have you standing outside with Jean."
"Why do I need to stand outside for the last one?" Emilia couldn't help but ask.
Mimi's eyes slowly turned to look at Mimi. Emilia's body couldn't help but shiver upon staring into Andras's frosty, intense eyes. It was as if he were a completely different person.
"The last one is a little more complicated. I don't think you're ready yet to witness…dull matters."
Furrowing her brows, Emilia couldn't help but be confused by Andras's words.
That was it? Boring matters?
Well, if Andras said it was boring it must be bad. Deciding to leave it be, Emilia glanced out the window completely missing the sinister glow in Mimi's eyes.
For the majority of the day, Mimi attended meetings and discussed new systems and business deals with her investors.
On the side, Emilia took note of things she deemed important making sure to add side notes on the side to remember it better.
After visiting two companies it was already late in the afternoon. Exhausted and bored, Emilia yawned tiredly in the car.
Who knew just taking notes could be so exhausting! She could hardly imagine what it was like to be the one discussing such boring details.
Mimi and Jean, on the other hand, were unaffected from the very beginning not once seeming tired. Their expressions clear and lively, ready to take on the next assignment.
Arriving at the third company, the three entered the large glass building. Emilia, seeing the large building couldn't help but find it to look familiar. However, no matter how hard she tried she couldn't remember why.
Breaking from her thoughts, she continued to walk forward following behind Andras and Jean. Lead to the top of the building by an employee, Mimi's steps halted and turned around to look at the two.
"Jean, you follow me inside. I'll send you out in a few minutes once things begin."
"Yes, sir."
"As for you Emilia, you can sit down on the side." Mimi flashed a broad ethereal smile. "I'm sure you must be tired from everything so please, rest. I won't be long."
Without allowing her the chance to speak, Mimi turned around and entered the conference room with Jean behind her.
Frowning, Emilia huffs and slumps down on one of the chairs on the side.
"Hmph, I'm not that tired…" Emilia bitterly muttered.
Why did Andras treat her as if she was incapable of working hard? She wasn't completely useless!
Crossing her legs, Emilia flipped open her notebook and began looking over her notes. While Emilia was engrossed in her notes, she hadn't heard the set of footsteps passing by.
Two figures passed by the waiting area, both discussing something with serious expressions. One of the figures upon seeing Emilia halted in place and stared at the blond beauty with wide eyes.
"Emilia?"
Emilia's body tensed upon hearing the familiar masculine voice.
No way…
Hesitantly glancing up, Emilia looked up, unaware of her fingers clutching tightly to her notebook.
"Landon?"
Standing a few feet away from her with a look of shock on his attractive face was Landon Williams. Her childhood friend and the man she once loved.
The very man who betrayed and used her.
