Chereads / MIMI / Chapter 45 - Looking Down On Him

Chapter 45 - Looking Down On Him

Resting peacefully on her plump mattress, soft snores escape the girl's rosy mouth. Her medium-length hair disheveled and scattered messily around her gentle face.

As Mimi slept soundly, the sudden sound of her phone ringing had awakened her.

Groaning unhappily, Mimi tosses around on the bed - reluctant to part with the warm cozy blankets.

However, the sound of her phone ringing continuously had agitated her out of her trance.

Grumbling a few curses, Mimi snatches the phone off her bedside table, answering it with a slightly hoarse voice.

"This better be important otherwise someone's going to lose their little brother." She snapped groggily.

"Uh…" Alec on the other end's face paled towards her grave words. "D-Don't worry it's important!"

"Then spill it," Mimi prompted herself upright onto the bed, her white T-shirt hanging off her youthful body loosely.

"R-Right," Alec inhaled a harsh breath. "Recently, ever since Tobias's companies profits increased dad's been planning something pretty big. He's using Kenji to go around and gain favor with other profitable companies. I'm not sure how but his profits had suddenly started rising as well. And fast."

Mimi's brows furrowed deeply, a firm line naturally forming on her rosy lips. Suddenly a devilish sneer curled on her lips.

"I've always assumed the old man was undoubtedly involved with some underground work," Mimi chuckled darkly. "I didn't assume he'd finally take it into his hands to use it."

"W-what?" Alec voiced with disbelief. "You mean he's involved with…"

Before Alec could complete his sentence, Mimi cut the man off.

"Don't worry about it big brother," Mimi laughed gently. "I'll handle this."

Gathering her words, a sudden chill ran down Alec's back. He couldn't help but fear what those words truly meant. He humbly trusted Mimi, but that didn't mean he wasn't worried for her.

"Mimi…" Alec started hesitantly. "Don't overdo it. I understand you hold a grudge against dad, but don't do it to the point where you can't take care of yourself. I know you're doing this for--"

"Alec." Mimi's icy voice immediately cut him off. "Watch out for yourself rather than others. Sleep well."

With those words, Mimi hung up.

Mimi stared dully at her phone with a vacant expression before merely shifting towards the private balcony in her room.

The moonlight lit up the girl's stunning gentle face. Her violet eyes dulled, her frail body appearing detached as if it was merely a cracked shell without a soul.

Mimi harshly bit her bottom lip as her hands on her sides formed into clenched fists.

"Dammit…" She laughed scornfully with her head lowered.

With trembling shoulders, Mimi transferred her dull gaze towards her own soft slender hands.

"Still so…"

Clenching her trembling hands, Mimi stands up to walk out of her bedroom beginning her day.

A broad smile now plastered onto her face.

...

Inside Mimi's office in Glory Trade Corporation, Mimi mindlessly plays games on her phone while contentedly munching on a bag of potato chips.

"Knock, knock--"

Perceiving the familiar sound of someone knocking on her door, Mimi grunts in approval while gently licking her salted fingers. Gradually opening her door, Eli Sato walks in with a crooked smile.

"Hey there Mimi, how's it going?" Eli spoke politely with a faint nervousness.

Mimi merely responds with a pleasant hum while gently tapping her phone screen. Eli sighs hopelessly towards the girl's indifferent attitude.

On her desk was a towering stack of papers that were given to her by Eli and a few other employees.

Looking at them more closely it appeared as if no one had touched them.

"Mimi, listen…" Eli hesitates. "I've been receiving complaints from some of the others saying you're not performing your work properly."

Even with his concerning words, Mimi hadn't looked up from her phone and continued to munch on her chips.

"I understand you probably worked hard to get this job but…" Eli trailed off his words. "I require you to get some work done otherwise I'll have no choice but to fire you even if Mr. Itou favors you."

Mimi paused upon hearing his words, the sound of her character dying on her phone could be heard in the background. Shifting her eyes up, Mimi stares at Eli with a cold stare.

"Mr. Sato I have to say, I was thoroughly impressed with how you handled things around here." Mimi folded her arms on the table. "But to think you'd be as stupid as to fall for others words saddens me."

Instantly, Eli's entire body tensed, his green eyes widening with shock. Never in his life had someone called him stupid, not to mention saying they were disappointed in him.

He couldn't help but furrow his brows towards her words. Even if he found her words to be slightly interesting, he was nevertheless her boss. She was clearly looking down on him.
