Chapter 3 - Anything But Human

The voice asked him rather sternly.

He suddenly felt as though he was back at school and was being interrogated by a teacher. Anyone would hesitate a little if they were asked this question so severely, even if they knew the correct answer. Ryuunosuke steeled himself and replied in a determined tone.

"Yes. That is my final answer. I wish to be reincarnated into another world."

"Yes. I understand. I'm prepared to face anything."

The voice spoke pitifully, its tone changing way too quickly for comfort.

"It's been hard on you Kami-sama" Ryuunosuke consoled.

Ryuunosuke was astounded. That the casual words of comfort he had said in passing would elicit such a strong reaction was not something he could have anticipated. He sincerely expressed his gratitude to the formless voice.

"Thank you very much."

Being able to choose what species he would reincarnate into is such a generous gift, and on top of that he was also allowed to customize his appearance. Unfortunately, how a person looks on the outside was not something that Ryuunosuke cared much about while he was alive and even more so now. He was never an outstanding person in terms of looks but he never gave much thought to it. Of course he would like to remain as a male but does he want to reincarnate as a human? If he were to remain as a human in his next life, then that would mean that he would have to live amidst human society and support himself financially once again. In such a setting, working would be unavoidable no matter how he looked at it.

The thing that Ryuunosuke wanted to avoid the most was working. He had suffered through enough work in his past life and he did not wish to go through it again.

"I would like to not reincarnate as a human. Anything else is fine, but I would like to keep my current memories and be able to think coherently."

It would be bad if he were reincarnated as a mindless, savage beast.

The voice laughed.

"I don't really have an opinion on it. I'll let Kami-sama decide which appearance suits me the most."

"It was nice to meet you. Thank you for everything."

The glowing orb managed to say those last few words before it disappeared from the mountain, not leaving a trace of its presence behind.

The voice sighed.
