Chapter 6 - Spicy Soul Spinach

FOOD.

That was the only thing that occupied his thoughts. He did not even realize he was hungry until his stomach had made such a loud growling noise, but now that he was aware of it, his hunger kept growing and intensifying until he almost could bear it no more. Just as he tried to scavenge for something to eat, he realized that he was unable to move. A blob has no legs so how could he walk? He poked the system inside his head.

<<1. BOUNCE

2. ROLL

3. AMOEBOID MOVEMENT>>

Bouncing seems like it would take up a lot of energy and rolling would probably make him feel dizzy so he decided to choose the third option.

Ryuunosuke felt a wave of heat overwhelm his brain, causing him a slight migraine, before a flood of information flooded in.

Ryuunosuke tried to move again. His body naturally began to move according to the new information he had just learnt, as though it was instilled in his muscle memory. The round blob extended several pseudopodium-like protrusions from its body and tried to crawl forwards like an amoeba. The actual movement in itself was not hard; after all, he had already mastered all of it when the system had transferred the data to his memory. The problem lay in its efficiency. Amoeboid movement was for amoebae, and he was not an amoeba. His flesh was a lot more viscous in consistency than that of an amoeba so the extent to which he could extend a protrusion was not much. With a jiggle-jiggle here, and a jiggle-jiggle there, the jelly-like blob struggled forwards with determination.

After an intense workout, Ryuunosuke became tired and stopped to rest. Looking back, he realized he had moved a great distance of just ten inches. He felt that something was not right. Why was moving so hard? He's so drained of energy from moving only a tiny amount that he thinks it's better if he just doesn't move at all. He relaxed his body and flopped on the ground lazily. A soft breeze caressed the exhausted fuzzy white ball and made it feel drowsy. A yawn escaped from Ryuunosuke's mouth and his eyelids felt like lead; they were so heavy he could no longer keep them open so they fell firmly shut. Just as he was about to drift into dreamland, A deafening growl emanated from his stomach, its sound echoing through the entire forest.

Ryuunosuke woke up with a start. His round, snow-white cheeks once again started to glow pink in embarrassment. He had completely forgotten how hungry he was because he had been too preoccupied with trying to move. He really wanted food but to find it required moving, and moving was a lot of work. What to do?

Suddenly, a eureka moment arose. A bright light bulb came on inside of his brain. Although AMOEBOID MOVEMENT was derived from the movement of amoebae, at the end of the day, it was just a skill for him to use. It occurred to him that he did not have to move exactly like an amoeba when using the AMOEBOID MOVEMENT skill. Thinking this way, he once again formed four small protrusions from its body but this time, instead of forming pseudopodia horizontally, he extended them downwards rather than horizontally. The protrusions stuck out from under his round body like four short little leg stubs.

At first he wobbles a little, his stubby legs shaking like that of a newborn deer's, but he quickly found his centre of balance and managed to steady himself. After a bit of practice he soon got used to walking on all fours. In fact, he found that walking with four short legs was actually a lot more stable than walking on two of those awkwardly long human appendages. In order to improve his balance, he formed four squishy pads at the ends of his four leg stubs as makeshift paws. Trotting along the forest floor with ease, Ryuunosuke soon chances upon a lush field full of leafy green vegetation. He poked the system so that he could see whether or not they were edible.

His eyes flashed with voraciousness and he pounced on the field of spinach. The fuzzy white ball attacked the largest leafy spinach nearby and gorged on its flesh.
