Chapter 1 - Daisy's Desperate Desire

Stories were a way to express one's values, an avenue to analyse and appreciate life. At least, as an author, this was what Daisy thought.

Approaching 23 years old, Daisy had written many a story, and had gained recognition as a top tier fantasy writer. However, she always received one criticism; she couldn't write proper romance.

This wasn't Daisy's fault, she had never been in a proper relationship. Throughout her childhood, she had been a major bookworm, and, between studying and reading, had never found time to date. But this was now her last year in college. If she missed this opportunity, she would never understand how a real relationship worked, and without that, she would never be able to fix the one flaw in her writing.

With this resolution clear in her mind, Daisy left the student complex and headed towards her first class. Getting there early, she unpacked her notes and settled her gaze on the doorway, anticipating the start of her future love life.

After a while, the rest of the class started trickling in, her best friend, Dillan, slouching in with them. Daisy had met Dillan in her first year as a law student, when she had just transferred over from a different state and didn't know anybody. He had been the one to show her around campus, and they had been fast friends since.

"Yo wuzzup." He walked over, lifting his hand to give her a high five. "You sure came early today, what for?" Daisy winced, she didn't exactly want to explain what she was doing. She didn't know why, but she only desired to show Dillan her good side.

"I, uh, woke up early today." Dillan stared at her sceptically before shrugging and pulling up a seat next to her.

Just then, Daisy spotted the football star, Drake, stride though the door. 'Him! He's perfect. Now I just need to figure out how to ask him out.' She was nervously squirming, wondering how to approach this class idol, when she noticed the teacher walking in from behind Drake.

'Gosh darn it. Now I'll have to wait until class is over.' Daisy frowned before deciding to spend the rest of the two-hour lecture plotting how to catch Drake's attention.

*************

Finally, the lecture was over, and it was time for Daisy to enact her master plan. She would rush out and 'trip' in front of Drake. This always worked in the stories she had read, so there was no reason it wouldn't in real life.

However, as she got up, she was blocked by the large profile of Dillan. "Hey, want to see some new pics of Cuddles I took?" he asked, waving his phone in front of her face.

"Not now, Dillan. Can't you wait a bit?" Daisy leaned to the left, hoping to catch a glance at the now far away back of the class hunk.

"Daisy." The seriousness of Dillan's tone caught Daisy off guard, and she focused her gaze on Dillan to hear what he had to say.

"You've been acting strangely today. Why do keep looking at Drake? Aren't I- I mean, shouldn't you- Ugh. Forget it." Dillan stomped off, looking unusually angry.

Daisy stood there, torn. Should she go after Drake or Dillan? Going after Drake would mean she might finally have a reference for her books, but if she didn't go after Dillan, she might lose a best friend. Of course, the choice was obvious.

Abandoning her notes, she ran to the courtyard, where she knew that Dillan would be waiting. Sure enough, he was sitting under the willow tree, with his head perched on top of his knees.

"Hey." She squatted down, eye level with the sulking man. "What's wrong?"

He shifted his head into a position where his eyes met hers, "Don't you already know?"

Her face scrunched up, confusion written all over it, "What? No! That's why I need you to tell me!"

He scrutinised her face, searching for any sign of dishonesty before sighing, "Jeez, you're really thick aren't ya? I'm jealous, okay? Why are you going after Drake?! You don't even know him! I've been by your side for 4 years. Why can't you notice me?!"

"What?" Stupefied, Daisy stood there dumbly, her mouth ajar.

"Do you need me to spell it out for you? I love you! I L-O-V-E Y-O-U!" Dillan's face heated up, a blush spreading through his cheeks.

"Will you go out with me?" He whispered.

Daisy also blushed, feeling an unfamiliar, warm, squishy feeling emanating from her heart. "Yes?"

***************

As days turned to months, their relationship got closer and closer and soon, as night turned to day, the daisy finally bloomed. This was Daisy's own romance story, and it was perfect.
