Chapter 16 - The Heavy Stench of Blood

Till the time Kaal and Khajoor finished their work, all the 5 suns had already said their farewells to the world and gone down the horizon. As they were walking towards their small, thatched hut at the corner of the village, Kaal suddenly shouted.

"I remember now! Hahahaha… I remember everything now!"

Khajoor almost sh*t his pants when he suddenly heard Kaal shouting. He calmed down after a moment and glared hatefully at Kaal.

"I almost sh*t my pants due to your shout. Give me a good reason for that shout or otherwise I won't be able to control myself at midnight when you are asleep." Khajoor said angrily.

Kaal suddenly shuddered when he heard this. Many different scenarios suddenly popped into his mind when he thought about that. 'Puh! Puh! What am I thinking? My thoughts have also been infected by him. Don't think about it Kaal.' Kaal reprimanded himself.

"I suddenly remembered something very important, you know? Let me explain it to you. Do you remember what Chooha said about Josh that if he decides to kill someone, he would definitely do that at any costs? According to this statement of Chooha, this should be the nature or what you told me, the Dao heart of his father, Josh. If this was true, then would his Dao heart bend because of the fear of death and the oath?"

"It really would be great if that happened, but if his nature and hatred remains the same even after the oath, then wouldn't he try something else to make our lives difficult instead of killing us straight away?"

"According to my understanding of the situation, he would not dare to cause any sort of trouble directly, but what about some underhanded methods? If he somehow convinced everyone in the village to not let us work in their homes, then won't we die of hunger because of that?" Kaal said all this in one breath.

When Khajoor heard this, he suddenly felt cold in his heart. He realized that the situation has not improved a bit since that night. Everything was still the same, Josh trying to kill them and they hide from him. He was scared out of his wits but when he looked at Kaal, he calmed down. He realized that since his brother is calm about this matter then what am I freaking out for? Be calm, Khajoor. Be calm.

"But it isn't entirely sure that he would definitely come back for revenge, right? Let us hope for the best and think of our next course of action when the need arises. Let's head home for now and rest. I am very tired of working all day." Khajoor said, waving his hands. Although Khajoor tried his best to pretend that he wasn't much bothered by that news, but his twerking 'butt-cheeks' spilled the beans for him.

It was obvious that he was very scared but trying to show that he wasn't, but Kaal didn't point it out as he was as much scared as him about this matter. He was also acting calm so that Khajoor doesn't freak out, because humans make many wrong decisions in fear. He didn't want Khajoor to do make some stupid decisions out of fear.

As they made their way towards their small, thatched hut, it was already dark. The 5 moons illuminated the paths to their home. The surroundings were filled with an eerie silence. No one said a word till they reached their home.

When they were about to enter the thatched hut, a heavy smell of blood came from somewhere which made the two go pale. The smell was very heavy. They wanted to puke right there and then but somehow managed to hold it in.

The first thought that came into their mind was 'Trouble came'. They cautiously looked left and right to sense where the smell was coming from. Kaal tapped Khajoor's shoulder and pointed at a direction in the dark. They slowly and cautiously made their way towards that direction.

After just walking a few steps, they found that the trap they had set at one of the four corners of the small, thatched hut had been activated and a huge pit could be seen in the ground. Apparently, the stench of blood was coming from there.

They somehow managed to gather their courage and peeked inside the pit. As they peeked inside, they were shocked silly as their bodies shuddered lightly. They found 3 large boars around 1.5 meter tall were inside that pit. Obviously, they were dead. Their whole bodies were pierced by the sharp bamboo tips that were covered with steel, protruding out of the ground.

Almost half of the pit was filled by their blood. This was the reason that the stench of the blood was so heavy. When they saw this scene they stomach churned and they felt an urge to vomit. They immediately fled from scene inside their thatched hut. The stench of blood was still there but it was very light inside the thatched hut. This made them heave a sigh of relief.

They were barely able to eat a bit of the leftover they got today as the stench of blood made their stomachs churn. After eating the leftover, they laid down on their broken bed to sleep. Although they did close their eyes, but both of them couldn't sleep even a bit. Both of them were thinking about the issue that they might face in the near future.

Like this, a night passed and this time it was the moons' turn to give farewell. At this time the 5 suns were hiding behind the horizon, preparing to illuminate the whole world. At this time, all the cocks in the village stood straight up like a javelin, preparing to wake the people.

At this time, Kaal and Khajoor both opened their bloodshot eyes and stood up. Both of them saw each other, but didn't say anything. They just washed a bit, and left the small, thatched hut to work. At first, they didn't find anything unusual, but soon they realized that the stench of the blood was gone.
