A few years ago…
"Its 8:00, I really have to go home now." She though
She signed heavily again not wanting to face her mother's anger. She had played with Mirly at their house not noticing the time. She forgot to inform her mother about it.
When she did finally remembered and called her, her mother yelled at her on the phone and told her to go home immediately. She sighed again.
"What's with the long sigh?"
Startled by the sudden voice, Reen took a step back. It was Mrs. Wisteria Naide carrying a bag of groceries.
"Miss Wisteria? W-what are you doing here?"
"I'm just on my way from shopping; Hue is waiting for me a few blocks here. What about you?"
"Oh! Uhm… just doing some night stroll."
"Would anyone shop in the middle of the night?" she thought
Reen look at her curiously, seeing her obvious curiosity Wisteria chuckled.
"We were both too busy that we forgot to buy food for dinner and we weren't in the mood to eat out so..."
Feeling stupid for being too obvious Reen blushed and looked at her feet as she intertwined her fingers in front of her. Wisteria merely smiled.
"If you're on your way home, we could give you a ride." A bit surprise by the offer, Reen could not answer immediately. Wisteria merely waited patiently for her answer.
"If it isn't too much of a bother…" she finally said.
Reen didn't want to get into more trouble than she was already in and she didn't want to get a cab home as it would be expensive.
Also, it was of course her first time walking alone at night, usually Mirly or some of her other friends were always with her and it was not that she was afraid of the dark or anything; rather she was more afraid of what's in the dark.
"I was planning to walk as it was only a few blocks away from where Mirly lived but since someone offered a free ride why not just take advantage of it." She thought happily.
Wisteria smiled sweetly.
"Alright then, let's go?"
Wisteria held her hand out. Reen looked at Wisteria's smiling angelic face and couldn't help but return it, she then held her hand. They walk hand in hand towards Hue's car.
After 20 minutes, they had arrived at Reen's house.
"Thank you very much for taking me home Mrs. Wisteria and Mr. Hue."
"No problem kid, it was our pleasure." Hue said
"If you don't mind, would you like to come in for some tea and biscuits? It's the least I can do." She said shyly.
"That's sweet of you. We'd-"
As he briefly glimpse at Wisteria to get her consent as well he finally noticing Wisteria seating silently and alertly sitting beside him, their eyes met and Hue suddenly turned stiff. Reen noticing the changed in their demeanor asked in concern.
"Mr. Hue? Miss Wisteria? Is everything alright?"
"There's nothing wrong sweetie, we'd love to have some tea and biscuits but since it's kinda late now. Can we get a rain check on that offer [1]?" She winked at Reen
"Alright" She nodded
"Now… now… let's not make your mother wait any longer. Go on ahead and go inside. Don't forget to lock your door securely."
"I'll go ahead then Mr. Hue and Aunt Wisteria."
She waved goodbye at them as she jogged towards her house, she was actually scared that the longer she stayed there the angrier her mom would get so decided not to dwell too much about their reactions and hurriedly jog towards her house.
Reen's back facing them, Hue placed a hand on Wisteria's shoulders squeezing it.
The scene that unfolded after this wasn't what Reen predicted to ever happen on her entire life, she didn't think that this joyful day would conclude in this an unexpected ending…
