Chereads / The Mage Poe / Chapter 3 - The wild wolf and underground river

Chapter 3 - The wild wolf and underground river

Standing in front of the wild dog with the stick in his tightly grabbed in his hand, Poe slowly started relaxing his body, getting ready to fight the level 4 wild dog in front of him. Standing there staring at each other for a while, Poe decided, not to wait any longer and the wild dog, one step faster than Poe, charged towards him.

Stepping out of the wild dogs charging range, Poe dodged the wild dogs sudden charge. The wild dog did not stop, even after it missed Poe, continuing its charge into a cave wall behind him.

*Crash*

Crashing into the cave wall, the wild dog let out a few pitiful whimpers while looking towards Poe. Recovering, it got up and started running towards Poe again. This time it learned its lesson, not charging towards him again.

Slashing with his stick towards the wild dog, Poe hit it directly in the face, making it stagger a little bit from side to side, Before getting ready to attack again, Poe jumps at his chance and slashes at the wild dog again.

Ignoring its injuries and the incoming attack, the wild dog jumps at Poe and manages to bite into his leg, before the almighty stick comes slashing down again.

Poe looked at his former pure white skin, now being stained with the red blood and could not help but let out a pained sound followed by a depressed sigh. Poe knew that he would get injured from hunting monsters, but it really hurt like hell having a wild dog bite into his leg.

Looking towards the one who made him suffer and also destroyed his perfectly fine pair of pants, Poe could not help but feel his anger rising to a new high.

Stick in hand, Poe started to swing his stick at the wild dog, that had used most of its reaming energy on biting into his leg earlier. After a few minutes of hitting the wild dog, a notification popped into existence.

[Gained 20 EXP + 10 EXP: for killing higher-level enemy]

[Gained Passive Skill: Stick Mastery lvl 1]

You picked up the most useless thing you could find laying everywhere on the ground and set out to master fighting with the useless. Deals 10 % more damage with a stick + 1 % per level.

After reading the notifications, Poe looked towards the now shining wild dog that slowly disappeared. In its place, a piece of meat showed up.

Feeling a sudden hunger and look down his injured leg, it might have been because of his injury, but Poe soon found himself looking towards the raw meat of the wild dog. Slowly walking closer, Poe picked it up. With not much else to eat, Poe started eating the meat from the wild dog.

After satisfying his hunger he inspected his status and surprise, surprise nothing really changed other than the useless [Stick Mastery], that is now part of his collection of passive skill.

Putting his status away, Poe slowly started to wonder when he would get an active skill or maybe just something related to magic. Maybe, just maybe he would get a cool magic spell that can call forth fire and ice or something.

Waking up from his daydream, Poe got up from the ground and started walking towards the place where the wild dog came from.

Walking deeper into the cave, it starts to get harder for Poe to see more than a few meters ahead of himself.

Stumbling around in the dark for what seemed like hours, Poe finally saw light in the distance. Walking towards the light, Poe soon finds himself in front of an underground river with clear water.

Looking around the cave, Poe soon finds out what was giving out light in the cave. Mushrooms growing along the cave walls lights up the entire cave. Picking up one of the mushrooms, it shines for a bit before the light slowly dies out and disappears completely.

Losing interest after seeing the light of the mushroom disappearing, Poe walked towards the river running through the middle of the cave. Looking into the water, what came into view was a short elf. Nothing that stands out too much other than the black hair and beautiful sky blue eyes. While blue eyes is not that rare among elves, the black hair is a rarity.

Looking closer at himself, Poe could not help, but think that he looks a little too skinny and maybe a little too short for an adult, but fear not, a mage is not all muscles so being skinny isn't a problem, Poe thought to himself with a slight smile on his face.

Changing his view from the water, Poe looked towards the other side of the river. There is a door carved into the wall on the other side of the river. Looking even closer, Poe discovers that the door is slightly open and light from the inside is spilling out.

Getting ready to cross the river that looks calm on the surface, Poe starts of by drinking some water from it to weaken the river, even if only a small bit... The water is still dripping from the ceiling helping the river heal the wounds Poe inflicted on it, with no time to lose Poe jumps into the river.

The first few meters of swimming goes smoothly, but the more he gets away from the shore the more violent the calm rivers undercurrents become. The stick in his is hand does not really help either in keeping him floating either.

Crossing the halfway mark of the rivver, Poe feels something against his leg, swimming around it and nibble at it.

Panicking, Poe swings his stick at the water and what looks like a fish jumps out of the water.

[River fish, lvl 1]

Fighting back, Poe finishes it off after a single hit on its head with his stick. Through the battle with the river fish, Poe almost lost his footing, about to be dragged down the river.

Luckily he managed to stabilize himself in the water. Now safe from attacks and not getting dragged down the river, Poe looks at the notification he got from fighting the river fish.

[Gained 4 EXP]

With all things done, Poe resumed his journey across the river.

Finally getting to safety at the other side of the river Poe breaths out exhaustedly and lays down on the ground. After the fight and swim across the river, Poe was more than tired at the moment, but he made it and the door was just in front of him right now.

After having rested for some time, Poe slowly got up and walked towards the door with the light leaking out from the inside.

Slowly opening the door what greeted him was… a lot of fluffy rabbits

[Fluffy rabbit, lvl 1]

[Fluffy rabbit, lvl 3]

[Fluffy rabbit, lvl 1]

[Fluffy rabbit, KING FLUFFY, lvl 20]

Slowly closing the door, Poe turns around and runs towards the river, just as he is about to jump into it the door bursts open followed by a river of white balls flowing out of the door.

Just as Poe jumps into the river, the white balls of fluffiness overwhelms hitting him midair and follows Poe into the river.

The last thing he saw before blacking out was a big ball of fluffiness standing and looking at him in the doorway before slowly turning around and bouncing back inside.

Poe, who lost consciousness slowly floats down the river together with the balls of fluffiness that jumped into the river with him.

Luckily, the balls of fluffiness that fell into the river with Poe stuck close to him and ended up helping him stay above the water, so he did not drown.

The balls of fluffiness on the other hand, were slowly disappearing, turning into shining light that slowly floated into the air and disappeared, replaced by a piece of meat, that slowly sank to the bottom of the river.
