Slowly moving closer the spider in front of Poe got ready to attack. Not wasting any time, Poe readied his stick and got ready to fight the cave spider in front of him.
When the cave spider finally got within 5 meters of Poe, it launched itself at him using its two front legs to attack.
Poe did not respond slowly either managing to dodge to the side, causing the front legs of the spider to just barley miss him.
Taking the chance after having dodged the spider, Poe hits the spider with his stick.
Sadly, to Poe's surprise the stick does close to nothing to the spider in front of him. The spider merely shrugs it off and turns around to attack Poe once again.
Trying to dodge the spider again, Poe tries to jump out of the spiders attack range, but it does not go as planned and his left arm is hit by one of the spiders front legs.
Feeling the pain of being stabbed by the spider reminds Poe of the time he tried to infuse mana into his brain, although mana infused into the brain hurt much more.
At this time, Poe was reminded once again. He can use magic, right?
Thinking of this, Poe tries to use his mana manipulation to strengthen his body. Nothing happens. Does he not have talent for body strengthening spells? He did as the books said you should do to strengthen a body part, but it did not work. His talent was most likely not in that department then.
Sighing to himself, his dream of strengthening his fist with mana and destroying mountains with nothing more than a casual punch was destroyed.
Dodging the spider coming at him again, this time without getting hit, Poe tried to gather his mana in his hand trying to form a ball of mana.
This time a ball of mana slowly formed, followed by a notification that he ignored for now. Taking the hand with the ball of mana on it, Poe pointed it towards the spider.
The ball of mana flew towards the spider hitting it in the face. Blood sprayed on the ground and it finally looked like Poe had done some damage to the spider in front of him.
Tumbling around a little from the damage to the head, Poe took the chance to take his stick to finish it out.
Of course Poe used his mana trying to use a simple mana enchantment that only needed mana to be injected into an object and nothing more, a simple and crude method of enchantment, yet still useful.
To Poe's luck, it seemed like he had some talent in that department as he heard a notification after injecting mana into his stick.
Smashing the spider directly on the head a few times before it came back from its dazed state, proved quite useful as the spider soon stopped moving.
And as the spider died, Poe looked towards the notifications he got over his fight against the spider.
[Gained 40 EXP + 50 EXP: for killing higher level enemy]
[Gained Active Skill: Mana Bolt lvl 1]: Gather mana into a ball and fire it at the enemy. Higher INT and WIS increases damage and range of the mana bolt. Higher level increases control and compresses size of the mana bolt making it smaller but deadlier. At lvl 10 size can be manipulated making user able to change size of mana bolt at will.
[Gained Active skill: Mana Enchantment lvl 1]: Able to strengthen an object making it sharper, amplifying the strength of the object and making it more durable. Higher level increases strength, sharpness and durability of object. At lvl 15 more unique enchantments can be made. Like enchanting boots with the ability to make the user fly or a stone that can store a fireball spell inside it.
[Mana manipulation has reached lvl 3, increases control over mana + 1 INT and 1 VIT]: mana flows through your body and increases control over mana while strengthening your body. Unique level up.
While he knew that he would get the Mana Bolt and Mana Enchantment, Poe was a little surprised at seeing a unique level up on his mana manipulation.
A unique level up is quite rare and a special action is needed for it to happen. It looks like controlling the mana inside the body to create spells with his body used as a medium instead of the core was the reason why. This was a good thing as his body got stronger.
This might have been the reason why the author of [Mages are better then everything] said that investing stat points in anything not INT or WIS was a waste. Mana could be used to strengthen the body while improving INT and WIS was almost impossible later on according to the author.
Finally seeing some of the benefits that his favorite author mentioned, Poe got elated at the possibilities this would bring him in the future.
While he was at it, Poe called forth his status to see the skills he got from the battle against the spider and was quite happy with what he saw.

As he finished looking over his stats, Poe walked towards the spider that had long turned into a piece of meat on the ground.

[CLASS ADVANCMENT MAGE]
[OBJECT 1: Reach level 5]
[REWARDS: 1 skill point, able to advance to choose a class or continue with object 2]
Normally you would only be able to pick a class at level 5. The class you got would be decided by the skills you had before reaching level 5. A class advancement on the other hand meant that you had already completed the requirements of a class and would be able to get an even stronger class. And a stronger class meant more stat points per level.
