Chapter 10 - The Aura Hypothesis

"Oh, where was I? Right, I was talking about how auras dictate emotion." Russell decided to cut into the conversation for he wanted to share his passion for research on auras with the young Muta. (Author's Note: Hehe. It was actually my fault that I drifted off topic the last chapter.)

"For the past decade, during my training to improve my elemental level, I discovered that there is a rather queer connection between your elemental powers and your emotions. For people who just unlocked their elemental powers, you tend to not have a more dominant emotion. When I say people who recently unlocked their elements, I also mean people below the level of grandmaster. People tend not to feel a certain emotion taking over their thought process yet as their elemental connection isn't as strong as it needs to be."

"You see there are a total of twelve main meridians and in the levels of beginner, intermediate and expert, you are essentially trying to open those channels up. When you do so, you would be able to absorb in more of the raw elemental energy and convert it into the element you possess. After you finally open all of the twelve main meridians, it is when you finally become a true Elementalist. Before that, you can still be considered as an infant in the world of Centriole." Muta listened intently to the wisdom Russell was bestowing on him. Not every day would you get an expert to teach you the fundamentals of elemental energy. However, he did have a question he was puzzled by. "Hmm… Uncle Russell, if you have opened all the 12 meridian channels in your body, what would happen to your body as you progress up the ranks for grandmaster and onwards?"

"That is a very good question young Muta! The answer to your question lies in the temple of your head. When you have finally opened all the twelve main meridians, a large inflow of elemental energy will be able to pour into your body very easily. Thus, in order to contain this energy, your temple acts as a basin to store it all. As you progress higher in the realms, your basin in the temple is able to store more of that pure energy and thus you would get stronger and stronger!"

"Now this leads me to my link between emotions and your respective auras. When it comes down to where your elemental energy is stored, it is actually located beside the place where your emotions are processed and developed. Thus when you have a stronger grasp of your element, your thought process and actions would also have a higher chance of being dominated by that corresponding emotion that is especially linked to your aura."

"If you have noticed carefully, your father is a great example of a person being dominated by the emotion of ecstasy. Since his wind element is in a whole different realm than his water element, he mainly displays only happiness for the sad emotions are being suppressed by this emotion. I mean your father has always been a happy man, but the fact that he laughs ever so slightly at small matters is slightly unnerving and quite annoying." Russell pointed to Gavin as he explained his theory. To his prediction, Gavin did chuckle once again. "You actually managed to attain such high understanding in your research Russell. I am quite impressed. You are correct about me being unable to control my laughter at times for my wind element is now stronger than my water element by a whole tier."

Muta watched the entire scene unfold before his eyes. Never did he realise his father was not doing the laughing intentionally. He truly believes that his uncle Russell's theory is correct and reasonable. I wonder how the man actually came out with such a theory. It is definitely a groundbreaking discovery in the world of elemental powers. The trends of his hypothesis had all aligned!

"Uncle you have yet to tell me about how Dragoon is able to…" Muta wanted to ask about the restaurant's origin, however, he was cut off by the ringing of a bell. The sound was sonorous and deep. It echoed throughout the entire city. What did the bell sound mean?

"Oh, five rings. It seems that it is soon time for the aura test." Grant spoke out when he heard the bell. "Oh right Muta, it is your first time in Golgia and you do not know we can actually tell time here. When the big bell that you just heard rings five times, it means that it is afternoon. Usually, this is the time when the workers in the city are given a lunch break. When it sounds a total of six times, it means that it is the start of dusk. At this time, people would usually get off work and go home for dinner. Also when it rings four times, it means that it's the start of dawn and usually people get ready for work then."

"In the case of you Muta, your aura selection begins soon after the fifth bell ring. I suggest you scuttle off to the selection process first before we continue on our stories." Grant gave off a light chuckled while telling Muta about the concept of time in the city.

" Yeah I suppose it is time for us to leave for the selection test my son, we do not want to be late when they have your name called out," Gavin said to Muta while smiling slightly.

"Ha! Gavin, the wind speaker, being late for an event! Kiss my *** if your father ever misses an event. That guy is as punctual as a stick when it comes to smacking a naughty child's patootie." Gavin laughed out as he commented on Gavin's previous words. It was true that the man never ever missed his appointments when he makes one. Be it the time when Celia was giving birth to his beloved son or something as simple as a selection test, the man would always reach there on time.

"Well, any of you want to tag along with my son and I to the test?" Gavin asked his two sworn brothers.

"I was going to the test regardless of your arrival today. My nephew is also doing the test for his aura too and being the nice uncle, I decided that I am going to see the event." Grant said out loudly and Russell gave him a smirked face.

"I'm pretty sure you just want to skip out on the job today, which is why you decided to go to the selection. Am I right Mr Head Chef?" Cold sweat poured down the big man's bald head as he was exposed by the analytical Russell. "Well anyways, since this irresponsible man is going to the selection, I'd have to take over his position for a moment until he comes back."

"Ahh, you are the best brother Russell! I will be back in a jiffy! Come on let's go now you two! You would not want to be late for your big day right?"

"Yeah yeah, we will leave right after I drop off the wild boar that I found in the woods in the morning. Here Russell catch!" The dead boar flew in the air as if it was weightless and it landed in Russell's arms like a baby in a cradle. "Many thanks! I will use this to practice my slicing skills!"

It was after that when the trio left for the selection test.
