Chapter 3 - Character and Skill Creation

Emile waited. While waiting for the server to connect, he thought of a name.

"Should I use my real name? No, then people would know who I am." He thought.

Emile thought of things he found pleasing and wanted to create a name out of that thing. Emile has an abnormal love for anything fire related. He never knew why he enjoyed fire so much.

As he continued to think, the timer went into the last 10 seconds.

[There are 0 hours 0 minutes and 10 seconds before they reconnect the server. Please wait]

[There are 0 hours 0 minutes and 9 seconds before they reconnect the server. Please wait]

...

[There are 0 hours 0 minutes and 01 seconds before they reconnect the server. Please wait]

[They have connected the servers, would you like to join the server?]

"Yes," Emile responded in his mind.

They connected the cabin to his mind so it could understand his responses and react.

[Please create a character name]

"Flame Lord," he responded.

[Someone has taken that name. Please choose another name]

"Uhh... Mystical Flame," he responded.

[They have not chosen Mystical Flame, would you like to confirm this name?]

"Yes," he responded.

[Would you like to use your real life appearance?]

"No, but can I change it," he asked.

[Yes, you may change your real life appearance]

At this moment a lifelike figure of himself rose in front of him. Emile felt shocked as he looked at himself. He has never played a VR game before, which caused him to not know about a character using the same looks as the actual person.

Emile made his eye color a lighter shade of brown. He made his hair into a different style than what it looks like. He had a look of approving on his face as he stared at himself. He stood 1.8 meters tall.

The system sensed his approval and asked if he wanted to confirm his looks.

[Would you like to use this character?]

"Yes," he responded.

[What village would you like to start in]

A list of many villages popped up. The villages had no description. The only information available was the names of the villages.

Looking at the sheer number of villages made him feel overwhelmed. He didn't want to read the villages names, so he picked randomly.

[They have selected The Village of the Songs]

[Teleporting... Creating Stats... set up complete]

As those words were said, they teleported him away and arrived at the village crowded with many people.

[Welcome to the Village of the Songs.]

[Please enjoy your stay]

Emile looked around and all he could see was other players chatting and walking around. He didn't like crowded locations so he left the town as fast as he could.

Emile maneuvered around the people and left the town.

[You have arrived at the Song Forest]

There were many people killing the wild chickens which were level 0. They were at a place with tall oak trees. He didn't want to be with the players so he continued walking.

After a decent amount of walking, he made it far into the woods. There was no longer any people in his vicinity.

He decided the check out his stats.

Emile thought he got lucky with a decent amount of high stats. He also noticed that he had a lucky box in his inventory.

He examined the lucky box.

Common Lucky Box

You think you have good luck? Let's find out.

Use: It can drop nothing to Rare equipment.

Emile felt shocked since he knew rare equipment would break the balance of the game. He was hoping for rare equipment since he had 10 points in the luck stat.

He opened the box.

A wheel popped up with many items. He spun the wheel, and it spun at a fast pace.

He only saw 1 rare item on the wheel and the majority was nothing or some common to uncommon items.

It scrolled past the uncommon and common items. The wheel slowed down. It was close to the rare item. Emile was screaming in his mind for it to go farther and land on the rare item. As if the system was listening to Emile it skidded onto the rare item slot.

"Yes!!!" Emile screamed in his mind with excitement.

[You have gained Rare Ring: Fighter's Will]

He understood why people enjoyed gambling so much. It was addicting to win something. It also made him aware of the dangers of gambling.

He examined the ring.

Fighter's Will

The ring of an ancient warrior. You feel that this ring has immeasurable potential.

Level Requirement: 0

Strength +19

Vitality +16

Agility +7

Skill: {5 Hit Slash}

The opponent is hit with 5 attacks that each deal 75% of max attack value

Cooldown: 30 minutes

Upgradeable

As expected of a rare item. The ring was strong since it tripled his strength stat. He equipped the ring. His strength shot up to 29 points which means a normal attack from him dealt 27-31 damage.

As he was standing there, a wild Boar charged at him. Standing in the middle of the forest made him seem like an easy target for the Boar. Emile noticed this and identified the Boar's weaknesses.

He identified the boar's stat.

Boar

Level: 2

Hp: 185/185

???

Other than seeing the level and the HP of the boar he couldn't see anything else. He had no weapons on him so he could only punch the boar. He punched the boar.

-28

Emile dodged out of the way of the boar's attack using Void-Steps. He wanted to try out the skill he got from the ring so he used it on the boar.

5 Hit Slash

-23

-23

-46 critical damage

-23

-23

Out of the 5 hits, 1 of them was a critical hit which dealt double damage. The boar was only one hit away from death. The boar got mad, but it didn't matter since all it took was 1 hit to fall down and die. He gave one more punch.

-31

[You have slain the Boar]

[You have gained Boar meat x2]

[You have gained Boar hide x1]

[You have gained 3 copper coins]

[You have gained 10 experience]

Emile didn't know the prices of any items so he couldn't figure out how much he earned. He also noticed that defeating an enemy that was stronger than him in levels would give him an exp multiplier.

He hunted boars until he leveled up.

Emile found a boar grazing near a small creek. He crouched behind a dark oak tree analyzing the boar's movement.

Emile waited for the Boar to take a sip of water from the creek. He wanted to test out Pinpoint which was the ability to notice the weak points of enemies that were weaker than him.

Emile noticed some weak points on the side of the Boar. He ran forward and used two fingers to jab one of the weak points.

-62 True damage

He noticed that he dealt double damage by attacking a weak point. He continued to strike at the same point.

-60 True damage

-120 True damage + Critical hit

He got a critical hit on top of the true damage which caused the Boar to die.

After the Boar died a new system notification popped up.

[You have created a skill]

[What would you like to name it?]

"Pinpoint," he replied.

[You have successfully created a new skill: Pinpoint]

Emile examined his stats to see the skill.

Emile realized that the skill would become useful for him. Emile had the bright idea to create a skill by using Void-Steps.

He camped for Boars by staying near the creek.

A Boar showed up after 2 minutes of waiting. He walked up to the Boar and stood still. It provoked the Boar into charging at him.

He used Void-Steps to move towards the left, which allowed him to dodge the attack. The Boar continued to charge at him. Emile continued to dodge the attacks which increased his proficiency in Void-Steps.

After 10 minutes of dodging attacks, Emile felt tired. The Boar would always end up missing Emile and never even touched his clothes.

At this moment Emile had an urge to do something different. He used Void-Steps before the Boar could get close to him. He stood still and moved his feet. The Boar seemed to notice that Emile would charge towards the left so it charged towards the left.

But Emile never moved from his position. This caused his feet to trick the Boar and miss him.

This provoked a system notification to appear.

[You have created a movement skill]

[What would you like to name it?]

"Void-Steps," Emile felt excited since he created another skill.

[You have successfully created a new skill: Void-Steps]

After learning the skill he checked his stats to see what the skill did.

The skill was strong and was a life saver. Emile realized that he entered the next stage of the Void-Steps. He was in the Expert proficiency but he needed to test it out at his father's dojo.

Emile killed the Boar and camped once more.
