Chapter 19 - Lethality Vs Craftiness (part 2)

WOOSH!

It was the assassin's class Spine Shot. The arrow flew at extremely high speed and the momentum generated was enough to perforated a 3 foot wide tree. Depending on the material the arrow head was made off, the damage could be amplify exponentially.

Why would fighters want to be a different class except for Rangers or assassins that could use bows if this was the case. The answer was very simple, the higher the level of the material, the more expensive it was and the more dangerous it was to obtain it. Arrows by nature were disposable commodities. A lot of adventurers did not have the money to buy expensive materials just to make an item with a high chance of getting lost.

Legolas' arrow had a copper head with a body made of Maple wood. This arrows were a pretty standard set for fighters all the way to Level 20. At higher Levels, copper as a metal didn't have the penetrating power to injure a second evolution warrior. That was true for any weapon made from this material.

It was no surprise that Legolas' group was so adamant about acquiring the mine after knowing that Iron could be extracted from it. Iron was the main component used in the weapons of the second evolution fighters. Not only did it had more penetrating power and sharpness due to its structure but it was also strong enough to resist the use of enchanting on the material preparation process. This process could provide magical benefits to the user of the weapons.

It was incredibly expensive to get it done but it was worth it. Properties could vary from simple strength boost to wielder and weapon, all the way to increase sharpness or penetrating power. Grandmaster Enchanter could even engrave deadly effects on the materials that would greatly enhanced the combat power of the artifact or weapon.

Legolas' Spine Shot came from a very tricky angle that was able to camouflage the direction it came from until it was unavoidable.

The moment the rogue felt his hair stand up, he immediately activated his defensive skill Bladeweaver. This Combat Art Increased the agility of the rogue allowing him to avoid attacks, enhanced his spell resistance, and increased the rogue's toughness for as long as the rogue supplied his chi into it.

A level 16 Rogue could maintain this spell for 15 minutes without using any other skills. It provided great help but it was a double edge sword as its chi consumption was considerable. It was up to the rogue to determine how long to use it for or when to use it. In the general sense, fights between 2 classes only lasted a couple of minutes. So in some occasions it was safe to use it all through out the fight.

One of the most famous quotes from the Era of Reconstruction came from and undefeated Monk

that said "A true warrior comes to the arena with all of his powers at the ready". There was no second chances in a fight to the death, no I should offs, if you want to win do not hold anything back.

That was Legolas style of fighting. The moment he used Spine Shot he activated the assassins bread and butter enhancements. One was Sprint and the other was Lethal Edge. Sprint was an enhancement to the moment speed of the scout. As long as a portion of chi was supplied, you could run 20% faster. Sprint was a skill acquired in the early levels of the scout path. So, if they chose this path they will be able to learn it. Lethal Edge was very similar to the Bladeweaver skill of the rogues. It boosted agility, spell resistance, and Lethality of combat arts. The increased agility in turn boosted the ability of the assassin to avoid incoming physical damage.

With this 2 enhancements on him Legolas moved extremely fast. By the time his arrow reach his target, he was almost in range to use Ambush.

After activating Bladeweaver, the boost from the enhancement allowed the rogue to move his body just enough to receive the arrow with his shoulder and not with his spine. The arrow went through his shoulder cleanly and continued on through.

Helgahvall's rogue knew it was time to escape. He had lost the initiative to what it look like a very experience killer. He activated sprint and at the same time took out his machetes.

Legolas was relentless. Once he was in range, he activated Ambush. In the position where Legolas was a millisecond before dark smoke appeared and in the next instance, he was right behind his enemy about to Backstab him. However, a Level 16 was no push over. he quickly parry the hit and use the recoil from it to open the distance between them. Right now the Rogue had only one thought in his mind, and that was to reach within a mile from his comrades.

It was his only chance to survive!!

With his 2 speed enhancements only a shadow of the rogue was seen speeding away. Legolas was a genius assassin, the moment his Spine Shot did damage it was already over. Legolas pull out his bow once more and used his Combat Art, Deadly shot. Deadly Shot allowed the assassin to shoot 2 precise range attacks. It could be used with throwing knives, kunai or in this case bow and arrow. The first arrow connected on the rogues leg but the second one miss.

Legolas click his tongue at the sight of his miss and thought, 'I got to work harder'. He ran after his prey but soon realized that despite being injured the rogue was barely slower than he was. "Looks like he is a follower of Balthazar, King of thieves".

As a Fighter, it was very important to focus on any details that your opponents could reveal at any time. If you know your enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.

As a follower of the King of Thieves the first 2 blessings they received was an innate ability to sense where danger was coming from and the second was a slight boost to their speed.

Legolas was a follower of the prince of death and as such all his blows stop the healing process of wounds for a couple of seconds allowing the wound to bleed more and the second was an innate skill to enhanced the damage of combat arts by a small percentage.

Legolas activated Ambush a second time and disappeared. This time instead of trying to backstab his enemy, he tried to hit his target with the hilt of the sword in order to stun it. Legolas expected the hit to be parry and for the rogue to try to run again but was surprise.

Helgahvall's Rogue did in fact parry but not like before. He used a skill this time, it was Lucky Gambit. He Parried the Hilt strike with the machete in his right hand and very quickly stabbed at Legolas' neck.

Lucky Gambit defined the style of fighting of a rogue. They liked to play pig eats tiger by exposing flaws to draw their enemies into attacking. After successfully avoiding the enemy's attack lucky gambit would empowered their counter-attack to cause double the damage.

Seeing a big ass machete coming his way didn't fluster Legolas. It was true that it caught him by surprise but his agility was off the charts and he still had a defensive ace that he kept for dire situations, Mirage. Mirage was a displacement skill that move the assassin a very short distance. due to the stress on the joints they couldn't use it frequently. Two of them in a row and their ligaments will probably tear apart.

The machete passed by where Legolas' neck should of been but it hit nothing but air. Legolas appeared 5 ft away as a red line appeared on his neck.

In a life or death battle every millisecond counts. Legolas slashed horizontally at the now unsteady Barbarian and followed with a reversed grip sword upper cut.

FLUSHHHHHHHH

Blood spray from the two cuts as Legolas stood in front of the Rogue and said, " I guess rogues are only so so. I hope your energy is a lot better than your fighting skills".

"AHHHHH! Wonderful!!!! 5 % "

" Now all I need is for the war to start and I'll probably be able to reach my second evolution. Nothing like chaos in order to Level. Lord Degark had it right".

Just as Legolas was speaking to himself, he heard a voice not too far away from him. He was extremely startled due to the fact that he was extremely sensitive and whoever it was, had managed to get close to him without him noticing.

"You shouldn't worry about the future because very soon you will be sleeping in a wooden pajama. Let MAMA show you why Rogues are fear through out the Realm".

The words fade it away as the silhouette of a robust athletic woman came into view.

"Who are you?" said Legolas.

"You can call me AYA".
