Chapter 23 - Clash of Alignments ( part 1)

"Get ready to fight!".

Aya and the Elder quickly pulled out their weapons and started to cast their beneficial enhancements. Energy swirl around the area in a chaotic way while the momentum of the front line increased exponentially.

Looking at the 4 opponents in front of him Hulsnir quickly determine their Levels. There were 2 Second Evolution Classes, besides the Level 20 defiler previously seen by Aya there was a higher level character with a very eerie aura around him.

" Ho oh! A Level 21 Dark Elf Reaver on this side of the world, and a pretty young one at that" Said Hulsnir with a hint of admiration on his face.

Reavers were unholy crusaders that wielded the power of Evil and Darkness in order to prevent the spread of the good alignment faith across the Realm. Reavers were the second evolution of the Shadowknights. They used evil spells to slow and cripple their enemies. They steal the strength and life from their victims, using this stolen power to strengthen themselves and their allies.

Shadowknights were the arch enemies of the Paladin and swore to oppose the Holy church every step of the way.

" Not bad Barbarian, You do have some knowledge. It is too bad somebody from your village hurt my little brother and now all of you will die as compensation".

"As far as I am concerned your group attacked us first and tried to cause conflict between the Frostwolfs and us. Your brother got what was coming to him".

Elder Grimsbane's face contorted as he realized that their influence had been discovered and that the attack on Legolas was not a chance encounter. He turned to look at the Barbarian party and while inspecting their levels he relaxed somewhat. There was no body above Level 19 and all the weapons were made out of copper.

"Kekeke... Brave words for somebody that is about to die... Kekeke".

"With just you" said Hulsnir while looking at the other 2 members of the enemy team.

The last 2 people in Ulrik's Team were a Level 18 mage, probably a warlock and a Level 18 Berserker that prefer the use of 2 broad swords.

Ha ha ha!!

Ha ha Ha!!

Ha ha ha!!

Ha ha ha!!

All 4 laugh out loud at the Barbarian's statement. In their eyes, he was a Country Bumpkin that didn't recognized the difference between heaven and Earth.

The Barbarian Beastlord and Berserker looked at each other with confused faces and thought, 'Since when has Hulsnir been this confident?'

RAWR!!

Hulsnir Roared like a wild beast. It was the Champion ( Second Evolution Guardian Title) skill Lion's Roar. When the skill came out the laughter stop and was replace with Surprise. Lions Roar was a Guardian skill that increased the defense of the Champion's allies versus physical damage for 30 sec. This was a Level 23 ability and they did not expected that the Barbarian in front of them that look to be no higher than Level 19 could use it.

Following the shout, Hulsnir reach for the sword that was behind the shield. As soon as Hulsnir pull the sword out, Ulrik felt that his throat had been pierce. The sword shone with a silver glow and had runes a long its body.

" Who are you?"

" You can call me Rhaen, Level 23 Champion follower of Izana Goddess of Valor".

Master Rhaen!!!!

Beside the Elder and Aya nobody else knew that Rahz's father had taken the place of Hulsnir in the team a couple of days before.

Rhaen didn't wasted any time and commanded Aya and the Beastlord named Rhea to attack the mage and told the Berserker to take on his counter part on the opposite team.

Elder Bear casted Umbral Warding and created and energy ward that defended against enemy damage for the whole team. The ward absorbed damage until all the energy was consume by the enemy attacks. It didn't matter if it was damage from magic spells or from Physical sources such as combat skills. Every time the Ward received damage it will diminish, if the energy of a spell was more powerful than the ward it would consume it and harm the fighter with the excess energy.

Ulrik's team was surprise by Rhaen's appearance but they were a very experience adventurer group. Grimsbane also cast a defensive ward on his allies and proceeded to cast detrimental spells on the enemy team.

Ulrik's team also complemented each other in a nice way. Most of the skills they possessed revolve around the use of poison and disease to inflict harm on their enemies. As such the Warlock and the defiler had spells that decrease the resistance to that type of damage.

Using this to their advantage, they could defeat opponents that other groups with a more diversified composition could not tackle.

The delegation's strategy was pretty simple. They had the numbers advantage and they could overwhelm the weakest person in the opposite team.

Aya and spots were the first to move towards the Mage. While Aya was activating her sustainable buffs, spots was already a few steps ahead. While spots was running, Rhea casted a couple of enhancement spells on her Warder. Bestial Fury increased strength, agility and toughness of Spots and the second was Imbued Spirit: Lightning. The Beastlord could call upon the power of nature and imbued the warder's spirit with different properties granting him special abilities. In this case Spots gain a boost to his movement speed and his attacks contained lightning properties that could increase the damage done by his claws. At really high levels, it could called thunder from the sky.

Before anybody had reacted Spots was already in the air launching a claw attack onto the warlock. Ulrik's group teamwork was not for show. The Warlock didn't even move and started to cast a spell while the Berserker stopped Spots from advancing.

Claw and sword met and Spots was push back by the clash. As soon as he landed, 2 spells immediately hit him. One was the Icy Winds from Grimsbane to slow his movement speed and the other was Netherous Bind. Netherous Bind created shadow shackles to stop the movement of the enemy.

Spots growled and struggled to advance but was unsuccessful. The warlock followed the bind with an acid bullet but was stop by the Ward previously cast by Elder Bear. Rhea responded as fast as she could but it was still nothing compare with the coordination of the other team. If it wasn't for the Elder previous preparations Spots would have suffered big time.

Rhea cast Warder Blessing and removed the detrimental spells on her pet. Spots instantly backed off instead of attacking. His instincts told him that if he forced his way like before nothing good will come from it.

Since they were down on team members, Ulrik spent some of his unholy power into summoning a Skeletal Warrior. The Skeletal Warrior was only level 15 but it knew no fear and Ulrik liked to use it as an extra shield. It could also disrupt an enemy by throwing itself at them.

Next Ulrik activated the most lethal of his spells. He acquired it when he evolved into a Reaver.

Unholy Aura was a sustainable spell that created and area of disease around the Shadow knight that consume organic material every few seconds depending on the resistance of the enemy.

All it took for Ulrik to inflict damage on his enemies was to be close to them.

Before Ulrik could cast another of his Unholy skills and maybe one shot one of the low levels in the delegation group, Rhaen made his move. He sheathed his sword and activated his combat art Leash. A chain and hook made out of energy appeared in his hand.

The chain flew straight to Elder Grimsbane, broke his ward and tied itself around his waist.

"GET OVER HERE!"

Leash was a very special skill, the bigger the size of the target the less effective it was. Unfortunately, for a Ratonga it was truly a death sentence.

The Elder felt a pull around his waist and flew towards Rhaen. Newton's first law of motion came at play and the elders back was almost snap like a toothpick. As the elder flew through the air his arms went back and his body bent like a bow. It look like Rahz's dad was playing paddle ball and Grimsbane was the ball.

Rhaen was ready to use Shield Bash to inflict a great amount of damage while using momentum in his favor. The Elder tried to cover his face with both his hands before the impact....

Thud!

The elder bounced off the ground backwards but the big hit never came.
