Chapter 1

My name is Nathaniel Harris. I am currently preparing myself to enter the game for the first time. Well, what I mean is that the attendants moved my body into the virtual reality cabin while I laid there.

Three years ago I was in a car accident that left me paralyzed from the neck down. My father is an important man, so he knew that this was no accident, it was an attempt on his life. He had put everything into making me the "perfect" heir. I was talented in everything that I had ever done from sword-fighting to school-work, but it was all for nothing. My dad refused to give up though. He brought me to every specialist throughout the world but they all came up with the same answer. They all believed that I had some kind of mental block in my brain. My body was fine, but something in my brain needed re-wired. The doctors recommended Virtual reality. They claimed that it could be possible to use the interface to re-wire my brain, but so far it had been unsuccessful.

Virtual reality had become the new way to solve political problems/disputes through "War games" which held real world consequences. These games had become so advanced that they were now the cutting edge for understanding the brain. Each time I would enter the virtual world I would get maybe an hour of movement before my virtual body would become paralyzed like my real body. Once this happened I could no longer enter that game without intense pain and seizures.

Father had invested huge amounts of money into the newest war game "Infinity" which claimed that they had perfected the system, gaining new insight into the human brain.

The problem was...it was a war game. This particular war game involved two countries competing for complete dominance of one another. Each side had chosen one million professional players to fight on their behalf, taking incredible care with the contract process to ensure maximum benefit. I had always watched the war games, and I knew the level of competition was insane. If it worked this time, I would be at a place I did not belong. The only player who didn't have to take part in the war.

The countdown for the game completed and I could feel my mind separate and begin to reformulate.

A pleasant female voice asked me a series of questions to which I quickly responded.

I had looked into the game and decided I wanted to play an assassin, but my class was locked.

Druid! Father!

A moment later a luminescent image appeared in my mind displaying the letters and numbers of my character information.

I was apprehensive during the character creation process because I still felt trapped, immobilized within my own body.

I could feel a shift in my consciousness, as though I was suddenly flying through space.

The sight that was digitally rendered in front of me was absolutely breathtaking.

Stars flew past, becoming tracers of multicolored light that lingered in my mind. The woman's voice from before began speaking. As she spoke I saw the images appear in the sky around me.

"In the game world of INFINITY, all life that exists was created at one time by the very planet itself. This world was known as Yag-Wei and its core was made up of pure Mana, not lava. This was the first world, a sentient being. Yag-Wei had always been, it could not recall anything else. Yag-Wei gained awareness and realized that in the darkness it could not see itself. The Mana within it manifested at it's thought and the first magic was performed, creating light.

The first Sun formed, but Yag-Wei had never seen light and it's brightness made it yearn for a softer glow.

The Mana once again flowed within it and a Moon was formed opposite the Sun. Yag-Wei was pleased with this light and turned its gaze towards the Moon. It glowed with such splendor and iridescence that it captivated Yag-Wei.

The sentient planet could see itself and realized it was the same shape as the light, but was barren and did not glow. It grew jealous and yearned to be beautiful. It was lonely and wished for company.

The Mana inside surged outward and life began. All of existence began at that moment, bursting forth to spread in all directions.

As the Mana reached the surface and touched upon the light of the Sun and the Moon it transformed into life.

An endless variety of creatures and plant life grew from the surface covering every inch.

In the darkest of places, the demons were created. In the lightest the angels and the fae.

The Mana continued to spread creating the stars giving awareness to Yag-Wei s first creations.

The Sun and Moon looked down at Yag-Wei as he cared for his creations. Yag-Wei was pleased and for a time, and all was peaceful. These creatures worshipped Yag-Wei, using the Mana within it to form magic to make food and water.

The Sun and Moon grew jealous of his love for his creations. So they trapped Yag-Wei s consciousness and it's endless stream of Mana into the core of the planet.

With no way to make more food, the planet turned to chaos and many races and creatures were exterminated. Only the strong and powerful survived. A great divide was created and a line was drawn, separating the light from the dark.

With Yag-Wei silent, the races turned to the heavens with their worship.

Ten thousand years later is when the game world of INFINITY begins. "

The woman finished speaking as I approached a planet with a sun on one side and a moon on the other. They seemed to be fixed in place. Upon the center of the planet was a dark ring covered in shadow. I flew towards the moon side directly below the moonlight, rushing into the atmosphere and through a cluster of trees.

My eyes were still closed. I could undeniably feel my body for the first time in a while. Emotion threaten to overwhelm me as a light breeze passed by, I could feel the cooling sensation make my skin tingle.

I dared to open my eyes and was amazed at the sight before me. I was in a beautiful Glade, with towering trees on all sides. The canopy opened up to let a single Ray of moonlight fall on a very small ancient looking tree.

Gorgeous.

The tree had warped and gnarled branches that made it seem as though it had a humanoid face.

My father must have chosen the Moon Elf race. The moon elves have a natural affinity for nature magic along with natural night vision.

This came in handy as I looked around at my surroundings. With Crystal clear clarity I could see luminescent flowers that were in bloom, lighting up the forest floor and the trees above. Tiny insects flittered about while birds and small bats dove from the canopy above to intercept them.

I savored the sights and sounds of my new body. I picked a flower, amazed at how fluid the response was to my mental commands. I was worried I would feel like those who wore prosthetics, as though it was foreign, but my body was my own.

l once had many skills before I was paralyzed, including acrobatics. After so many years I yearned to try out my limitations.

I sprinted forward and did a quick cartwheel into a double handstand followed by a neat backflip.

I ended up next to the tree and was surprised when it moved and spoke,

"Hrfm, Hrfm! Druid! You have much energy. Let's put it to use.", he said, gesturing at the glade around him, " This place is sacred! There are demon rabbits squeezing through a hole in that wall and they keep nibbling on me while I'm sleeping!".

Sure enough, I looked down and some of his trunk had bite marks all over it. I glanced over at the wall and saw a rabbit-sized hole with numerous pairs of glowing red eyes clearly visible.
