A Sentry stood at the head of this side street to warn any passersby of what lay ahead. Due to boredom, his corner he stood at was even clear of snow. He saw a girl in grey clothes approaching head down, probably one of the last of the orphans still in town.
"Hey kid! if you're going this way be aware there's a demon in the wall!" He called out to her.
She paused for a moment and nodded then continued on. The sentry shook his head.
'Oh well, I warned her... not my fault if she runs off screaming. more often then not lately though people have been coming to look at the thing on purpose.' he thought to himself.
Pear turned the corner and found the creature in the wall. She stared up at it with a mixture of hunger and contempt. 'yeah its kinda scary looking,' but to her it wasn't as scary as a priest.
Pear cautiously looked both ways to make sure no one was in sight.
She put her hand on the wall next to it for a moment, feeling the solid rock block carved from the mountains, then brought here to make the wall of a fancy house that nobody even lived in anymore. Most of the houses in the city are empty now. Slowly she moved her hand forward ,wondering what caused her hand to be immune to the strength of the stone. The rock powdered and broke away from her hand as if it was made of chalk, leaving a hole the size of her hand. Looking back again to make sure she was still alone she made a higher hole, then reached up three feet to make another. The only sound you might hear besides the wind is the sound of sand falling into the snow.
She pulled herself up using the handholds she was making, and putting her feet in the ones below ,to climb the twelve feet next to the giant embedded in the wall. Anyone who came by would doubt their senses, seeing a small figure half way up the wall next to the demon. When she was at shoulder level to the demon she turned and looked at the half of a shoulder protruding from the wall. The shoulder was covered with something resembling animal skins.
Her grey eyes sparkled and she moved hand to the massive shoulder. Pear's hand penetrated into the shoulder, as if it was bread dough then into the wall behind to snatch something that sparkled a dull red in her hand. Not even waiting to climb down she tossed it into her mouth and moaned in pleasure.
The Sentry down the street heard a sound and started walking over, worried that she might have fainted in the snow. "Hey there kid, you still okay?" he called. Just before he rounded the corner he heard a snow drift fall somewhere. And when he came around the corner he saw no one.
Puzzled he scratched his head looking at the footprints in the snow. It didn't look like footprints of someone running. Only a few had come this way today. Then he noticed the holes in the wall.
He stared trying to remember if they had been there before. Shaking his head he decided to report it, this was incomprehensible to him. He left the area to rush to the Old city guard house.
In a pile of snow nearby a hand reached out of the snow and grabbed a handful of stone from a wall like grabbing off a piece of clay. then returned into the snow pile.
Down through the grey clouds a huge figure glided landing on the building across the street. A ten foot tall figure dismounted the dragon like figure and vaulted down to the street. Landing in a crouch, it straightened up and walked towards the demon in the wall, observing it. In the snowbank Pear grinned with glee, the first smile she had shown in years. Taking aim she felt power surge into her arm and she fired off the stone faster then a rocket. The rock passed straight through the bone helmet of the demon and embedded itself in the wall next to where it had stood. The demon jerked and twitched as it fell into the snow. Red mist poured from the two holes in its bone helmet. The flying devil beast stared down in shock at its rider for a moment before leaping back into the air and desperately flying away.
Once the wind had dispersed the mist, Pear quickly ventured from the snow she had hidden in.
She rushed to the demon and the sounds of tearing fabric and breaking bones could be heard before she rushed away. Three perfect holes were on this demon, one of them in the shoulder like the one in the demon on the wall.
***************
In the morning light, Lissa skipped from the wagon to the cloister. The trip to the wall In the New city of Hermes, had been very fulfilling. All the garrison members were so grateful It was a pleasure to help them. They had given them a room in the Armory to rest overnight. Wendy decided to stay because there was so much ammunition to make, Wendy was easily able to use all her power up.
When Lissa arrived and entered Isabella's office, she could tell Isabella was also very happy.
"How did the trip to the wall go?" Isabella asked.
"Really well! the garrison members were so happy and friendly!" Lissa said. "They were especially happy that Wendy could make 'moar-tors'." she pronounced incorrectly.
Isabella nodded knowing how much this would ease the pressure on the defenders of the wall, to not have to worry about whether they had enough ammunition to last till the next shipment from Neverwinter.
"Lissa, I have plans to discuss with you, about a way to lower our casualties in the city guard.." Isabella began.
Lissa shook her head, "I'm sorry but... not yet ." Lissa then walked up next to Isabella behind the desk, and faced the door giving her a conspiratorial smile.
Isabella looked her puzzled and glanced at the gods stone on Lissa's chest. Moments later she heard some commotion outside. The door guard announced "City guard and garrison members!"
When the door opened Three Old city guards and one garrison member entered all looking disturbed, and out of breath.
"Your Holiness!! A Demon has been found DEAD next to the demon in the wall!!!"
