I woke up on day 12 covered in sweat. I mean mucous. The days had been getting hotter and hotter and noticeably the leaf that we were on was also affected by the sudden heat wave. Instead of a lush strong leaf full of water, it was getting more flimsy and dry. The parts that we had already eaten into had begun to crinkle and brown.
'We might need to change leaves soon.' I thought.
Poking my head out of my shell, I began to develop a feeling inside of me. As the warm air wrapped around my body, the air seemed to be talking to me. 'Get ready, it's tomorrow.' It seemed to say to me as it caressed my muscular foot.
For some reason, I felt that the sudden heat wave was for me. For some reason, I felt like the heavens were preparing another trial for me. So instead of mending my relationship with the Spiked-shelled snails, I decided to prepare for my baptism instead.
I didn't check up on my snail-blings that morning. I moved faster than a snail's pace, or I guess I was defining the new definition of quickest snail alive, as I slid towards the closest leaf to ours. Just call me flashy Mc-flash flash, flashiest and fastest snail alive! He who is able to throw out torrents of mucous behind in a torrent of nastiness to propel me to new speeds.
...
Thinking back now, not checking up on my siblings was a mistake, or maybe it was fate?
That's because day 12 was the day that Jody, Kevin, Melody, Jeremy, and SY left on their own adventure. I mean you can't expect that I was the only snail to have big dreams of exploration and wonder right? Part of my adventurous nature must have rubbed onto them. Look at me inspiring young snails to follow in my footsteps.
What? Me being a irresponsible big brother?
I WAS a irRESPONSIBLE snail brother okay? Clearly, I gave them permission to leave by not checking up on the that day. I also learned later about their adventures. I'll tell you about their stories later.
What. No.
I would never make up their stories. I developed a magical ability to link to their minds and speak with them. No plot holes here. Nope definitely not.
Nope. None. Look for plot holes elsewhere.
What's that? It only sounds reasonable if I was a magical snail? Hey. You don't know what I am. You don't know what I've been through. For all you know, a few weeks after Day 12, I learned magic and I became a magical snail!
And at that time, I learned to cast spells with such grace that a passing lumbering giant named Hagrid came up to me and told me: "You're a wizard, *****!".
Hmph.
Okay fine. Maybe some of that might have not happened but some of it did.
...
Upon reaching the closest leaf to our current leaf, I began to eat. I gorged on the leaf below me. I needed to store up water in my body. I needed to get as much as I can so I don't dry out as quickly. I looked up into the sky to check if the shameless cloud was still there. It wasn't. 'I hope it doesn't interrupt me again.'
Slowly I started from the furthest end of the leaf and moved in towards the branch. As I ate, I saw that the Spike-shelled snails in the distance were watching me. 'Let them watch. Let me show them that they should fear my stomach.' I thought as revved up my poop-making body and switched it into high gear.
It took a few hours, but I finished about half the leaf. I felt so happy to eat so much. I didn't know why. In my excitement, I decided to tear off parts of the leaf with my teeth and eat them whole in front of the crowd of Spike-shelled snails that were gathering on their leaf to watch me.
"Mmmm. So good!"
"Bet you can't eat as much as me! Keep staring and watch as I devour this leaf. Mmmm. Deeeeliciouss!"
"Let's have an eating contest. What? Only that little. Pshhh. Let the Ultra-snail show you!"
I snailed out and I snloated (snail-gloated) at them with random phrases which probably wasn't a good idea. Luckily they couldn't hear me, but I would like to think that they did.
When the sun began to set, I slid myself over back to our new home leaf. I was proud of my progress. I had eaten the whole leaf in a single day. The entire leaf! Wow, much progress. Much wow. As a result, I felt that I had an ample amount of mucous to last me more than a few days that had piled up in my shell. It was mucous production at its finest.
...
Full and content of my preparation, I slept soundly and happily in my shell that night.
It didn't occur to me that one day our new home leaf would become like our old leaf: eaten and decrepit. And if I kept on devouring every free leaf, we would need to migrate once more. I also started to swallow cut and swallow my food form that day onward. Weird. It seemed like I was changing internally.
