We started the 13th day quite early in the morning. The sun was just as blistering as the day before. Jeremy woke up before we all did and already he was in his upright position. I guess it gave him a better view of the surroundings. 'But isn't it tiring?' I thought to myself.
Slowly the rest of my siblings woke up. "Good morning! Let's have a great day," said Jody. "Good morning," replied Melody. "Good morning Melody, Jody, Kevin, and good night Jeremy," said SY. "What?" replied Jeremy who looked confused. "I mean you sleep SO early, don't you have to sleep now?" giggled SY. Hearing the joke, Jeremy chuckled a bit too. "No."
"Okay, since we have nothing to eat, let's go over the plan once more. We all agreed that we want to get off this tree right?" asked Melody. "Yes!" the rest replied. "Okay, so we definitely need to get past those creatures. Yesterday, we decided to group up in a line and try to appear as big as we can. And if they attack us, we can still stick together. Anyone object to this plan?" she asked. "Yes! You forgot that I called centre first," shouted SY. "And SY get's to be in the centre. Any other objections? No? Okay let's go." said Melody.
"Wait... I just want to tell you all that I love you all and we will get through the creatures together," said Jody cheerfully. No one replied to Jody. Oh, poor Jody. Instead, the rest of us... I mean the other four snails lined up with SY in the centre.
From left to right it was Kevin on the left, then Jody, SY, Jeremy and finally Melody on the right. Where was I? I rested myself on Jody's shell. Still, none of them had noticed me as I kept to myself. The five of them stayed in this formation with their shells pressed together and slid forward. I looked in front of us. The six-legged creatures hadn't appeared yet. In fact, they were nowhere to be seen. I remember asking myself if we had thought too much about it previously.
Some time has passed. We had moved towards and past the branch that led to our birth leaf. I looked to my side and I saw the barren branch that used to house our birthplace. I thought about our stupid leader again. Then I put those thoughts out of my head because we were already running away from him to start a new life. He was yesterday's news. Now we were now the ones who were in charge. We were sliding into territories that our family hadn't set their feet in.
After more hours of sliding forward, I began to see things in the distance. Sure enough, those creatures had appeared. Eventually, one of them noticed us and walked straight towards us. I didn't know how, but it was so fast! It reached us from its position near the trunk of the tree in under a few minutes.
When it reached us, it started to poke us with it's to antennas that were on its head. Tap. Tap. Tap. I had seen this before during our first migration. Tap. Tap. Tap. It continued. "Don't be scared," called out Jody. "Stay still," added Melody. We all held our breaths as it walked around and examined us. I could feel Jody tense up below me as the creature tapped him/her. Moments later it stopped tapping and turned around.
We all breathed out in relief. It had left us alone. "It looks like its working!" said Jody. "Yup, let's continue," said Melody. "I told you, we had to look scary to them. This was all MY idea," added SY. Everyone ignored SY and continued moving forward.
I thought the creatures were going to leave us alone.
Oh, how I was wrong.
After a few minutes, two creatures came to check us out. But just like the two from before, they only prodded our bodies and turned around to leave. Minutes later, ten of the creatures came back. Then they left and we would move. Then minutes later, thirty or so creatures came towards us. Eventually, we were surrounded by a sea of dark six-legged creatures from all sides. They opened and closed their jaws as they stared at us.
I began to quiver. 'Were we all going to be eaten?' I remembered thinking to myself.
