CHAPTER 1: LOVE
She looked up at the sky and watched the lonely moon above. She had lost everything. What is life?
Why are we breathing?
Why are we alive?
Why does the sun give off warmth when we never appreciated it's worth until it rained?
Why do people want you after they lose you?
A tear escaped from her eyes while she smiled sadly. Despair. That's what she felt. She hated the feeling of being worthless but she became one because of love.
But is it really love?
What really is love? Why do we give love to people when they don't even dare to give it back?
Do you really know what true love is?
Is it worth it to gamble in this kind of thing when all it gives is pure pain?
Was it a mistake to fall in love?
No. It wasn't. Her mistake was she pushed everyone away who loved her just to have the love that she thought was hers. That belonged to her. But it wasn't. It had never been.
She closed her eyes and let herself drown into the endless deep ocean. She took the last step until the current swallowed her body. She reminisced about her past, she delved deeper and deeper while her tears mixed with the ocean.
She was ready to end it when she saw the shadow of a shining star beside the moon. And just like that a blurry voice and an image that she assumed that was part of her memory appeared in her mind.
'A woman's worth is more than a man could never work for. A woman is a powerful person who gives light. A woman has been given a womb and a man's part and yet she can give life. A woman has been given a house and yet she made it a home that is full of warmth. A woman is someone who was given a simple thing but can give back precious treasures. A woman has never been worthless. Always remember you are a woman. And you are worth it"
It was then, as if the coldness of the ocean disappeared and the warmth in her heart lingered as if telling her to fight.
'No! I'm not going to die! I'm a woman! And I'm not Worthless. I will never be.'
She strived hard to reach the surface as her determination to live gave her the strength to go on. As she finally felt the air on her bare skin, tears streamed down her pale cheeks as she cried hard for her dear life. Clutching her hand on her chest, sobbing so hard pouring every pain she kept.
Under the moon and the sky finally filled with shining stars, she smiled to herself and promised to get back the things that she lost. She has to get it back and show them her worth. Shoving the treasure that they threw.
...
It was supposed to be a beautiful day, but there are things that are meant to happen. Yana scrubbed the toilet hard till it was sparkling. It has been her cycle of work to clean every corner of their house, for she believed that a clean house is a good environment for a family.
She leaned at the side and watched her surroundings, if it was her from her previous self, she probably got scolded for moving a finger. Her life as an heiress has been majestic, she was not allowed to do things that could harm or dirty her. She was treated like a princess but life didn't warn her that she will be a servant when she marries.
Wiping her sweats while picking up the basin on her side, she smiled to herself for once again she made a good job on cleaning. She won't deny that she missed her life before. Slacking off, and just training and studying every day. Not minding the bills nor groceries and withering plants in the backyard.
She walked out of the bathroom and put the basin away. Careful not to slip off and get bruises again. While concentrating on her tracks, she was startled by a loud giggle from the other side and accidentally slipped her foot. She felt the pain on her bottoms and a stinging pain from her left leg.
She got scratched again. She wasn't worried about the pain she felt. She was worried about the bruises; she was so sure that it will be bigger this time. She gathered herself and slowly walked out of there and walked to the nearest stool.
She sat on the chair sighing, quite disappointed that it will make her look less attractive. What will her husband think?
Brushing off that thought, she walked inside the infant's room and watched her child sleeping peacefully. She can't never deny that her baby doesn't even look like her. She felt sad by those thoughts. Maybe it was her husband's strong genes? She nodded and sat on the side and fed herself with satisfaction of her precious little potato sight.
She calls kids potatoes because she loves potatoes and their heads look like one. She giggled as Jiuhan batted his eyes and looked at her with his sparkling eyes. She smiled at him showing her deep dimples, Jiuhan raised his hand and reached for her cheek. He always adored her cute dimples.
"My little potato, are you hungry my baby?" she asked with her gentle voice. The things she loved about herself is her dimples, eyes and voice. Her soft gentle voice is just attractive.
"Not" Jiuhan mumbled. Even with his young age, he managed to mumble things just like no, not, yes, eat, sip (sleep), ash (wash) and uddie (cuddle). And of course, he can say mommy and quite bad saying daddy. No matter how they teach him, he just can't get it.
Yana nodded her head and lifted him up. She carried him in her arms and smiled as he started to play with her hair again.
"Does little Jiu-Jiu want mommy to sing him a song?" she asked, wiggling her brows. He giggled and nodded softly.
"The moon is bright; the wind is quiet.
The leaves hang over the window.
My baby fell asleep quickly.
Sleep, dreaming sweet dreams.
The moon is bright, the wind is calm,
Gently moving cradle,
Mother's baby, close your eyes,
Yeah sleep, sleep, dreaming sweet dreams"
(This is a Chinese lullaby that I have listened and searched for on Google I believed it was called "Northeastern lullaby")
She sang the song two times with her soft voice lingered around the house. She was swaying her body slowly while humming as she finished her song. She was oblivious that she had reached the backyard while dancing softly turning and swaying.
The servants were once again happy to see and hear her soft voice, they had been down these days. A couple of passersby even peeked through their gates. They always look up for her small performance every single time. Even though she doesn't look that good these days, she was still beautiful. She just doesn't take care of her beauty.
Ever since she got married, she looked older and passed her beauty. It's just sad that a precious diamond was covered by rust.
...
Supper came and they were sitting at the dining table quietly eating. Her husband came home early today. She was eager to know why but kept it to herself. The thought that her husband must have remembered her upcoming birthday. She smiled, showing her deep dimples on both of her cheeks.
In front of her was the little girl they took in. Not that little, but she treated her like a little sister because she was younger than her by a year and half. Jing Wei is a 22-year-old woman. They took her in when her husband found her on the streets. Jing Wei was abandoned by her betrothed and was 2 months pregnant. She pitied the poor woman and took her in as what her husband suggested. She treated her like a little sister and took care of her. Then soon after a few weeks she found out that she was pregnant for almost three months. She was happy to know that she gained a sister and a child.
Ji Xuan, her husband is a CEO of the company that she gained from her deceased aunt. Her aunt died without being wedded and as the only little girl in their family she was favored and got her aunt's will.
Her husband took care of the company even if the ownership of the company was still hers. Xuan sometimes asks her to give her the title but she always tells him that it was her memory of her aunt and she promised not to give it away. They had fought over it a lot and always ended up with unwanted curses. But soon her husband will apologize.
She does sometimes feel bad and think that her husband was only after her money but soon scold herself for being stupid.
She doesn't know that her husband was indeed after her money.
