Evan was working hard to adapt to this new world, in these three months he learned how to read thanks to Stephanie and since he already knew the language itself it wasn't that difficult. He than learned the information about who are his relatives and more or less understood his relationship with them. He learned how this world's government is working, learned about some people with high position in the government and he did it all while maintaining his status of mentally retarded person.
He had to play a lot with children of the palace, pretending to be equal to them in growth. He couldn't say he didn't like it since Evan always liked children, but he was in a 26 years old adult's body while his real age just a bit lower than 30 years.
If it was someone else, they might have felt some shame, but to find such a thick-skinned guy as Evan you first had to search through out a whole continent and might still not find one.
Of course, his undercover investigation during these three months did bring him a lot of results, and he even discovered a scheme that certain important people are trying to use to steal some of the third prince's money. Since Evan took over his body, it meant he took the ownership of his wealth as well and he was furious that some random John Doe was trying to steal from him when he just got to this place. Evan was of the tightfisted people who would gently pick up a coin they found on the road and jump around due to happiness even though he had millions in his pockets. Now someone was actually trying to steal from him, he couldn't forgive it nor was he trying to.
He completely investigated the case and found who are the culprits. He had to give thanks to his current role of mentally retarded person, so the people involved in the scam were not much guarding against him. Well, if they were not sure about his condition, they wouldn't have started the swindle in the first place. When Evan learned about their scam, he became furious. These people were going to sacrifice many innocent lives and destroy happiness of many honest hardworking families just for their own profit. Evan had already planned out his revenge, and currently was in the middle of turning it to life.
[Even a city is built by taking small steps, one at a time!] – thinkink this and accurately putting aside a cook's arpon, in the middle of night, Evan was searching through a closet full of some fat man's clothes. A few meters to his left, a fat man was soundly snoring without suspecting that there was someone else in his room.
The fat man was the chief cook of the third prince, Barick. He was a middle-aged man in his 40. He was fat as usually people of his profession are and was a lecherous guy that like to harass the servant girls of the castle. Unfortunately for the girls, there was no law in the empire that could protect them from it. Well what human right's juridical development would you expect from the Empire that valued the status and power over everything else. So, if it was a harassment case with a girl from a wealthy and respected family, the outcome for the culprit would be very unlikable depending who the person is. Therefore, the chief held a higher status then the servant girls and was behaving as he was told by his physiological desires. It was quite common in the society and girls from poor families were very vulnerable for abuse. Prince Julius being an upright person strictly prohibited such a behavior. He even sentenced to prison one of the guards who couldn't keep his hands to himself.
Barick was single and being in such position, it was not strange that he was a pervert that takes advantage of the defenseless servant girls in this palace. Barick also was involved in the scamming plan even though his role was unimportant. Every once in a while, he would have to go to the market to order some ingredients to cook food through the a merchant firm in the trading guild and all he would do is deliver some documents to the head of the trading guild or take some from him and deliver it to the new accountant of the third prince. He knew that something illegal was going on but didn't know what it was and to be honest, didn't care about it as long as he was getting his part of the money.
Trading guild was an official orgonisation from the government that registered all the small merchant groups. To be a merchant you had to have the license from the trading guild and without it selling something repeatedly or in large quantities was completely forbidden. The law was very strict about it and as can be guessed the trading guild was very influential power in the empire. A huge amount of money going though it every single day and even though all of the money might not belong to the trading guild, it still got a large chunk of it.
Evan didn't have a single clue why the head of such an organization was eying the belongings of the famous third prince, even though it might lead for his sorry end in shame and disgrace, it didn't make sense since the head was not of the people who needed to steal money through shady means. Instead, he was one the richest people from the empire, but he still was risking it all and was determined to achieve whatever he was planning to achieve. But this is exactly what was raising Evan's suspicion and he thought that it might be connected to Julius getting poisoned.
Evan learned long ago, how scary was the Heavenly Snake's Green Soul Poison that was used on his body. It was extremely rare and even if one had the money to buy it, without enough authority, he would never be able to. Soul dissipation using the poison was the cruelest way to kill without an equal. The agony experienced during the process was unimaginable. The pain caused was so much, that brain would initiate fainted condition and order the body cells to start self-destruction process just to stop the pain, but even that would not help, since the pain would exist within the soul itself. The body would be completely paralyzed with minutes and turn all green after 24 hours, which meant that the soul has completely dissipated and a few days later, the body would turn into greenish paste like substance. But even more scary was the fact that people would slowly forget everything connected to the person, since his soul would be completely dissipated, and it was as if the person never existed.
[Finally, found it! I spent half an hour searching for the papers!] – Evan took out an envelope from the closet with few documents in it. The papers were granting permission to allow the prince's new accountant access to his treasury cave from the imperial treasure tomb in order to pay out some promised money by the prince to a merchant group. It contained information about the sum involved, merchant firm which was getting the money, people involved and so on.
"Just you wait bastards until tommorow, I'll make you sh*t with blood for trying to steal from me! Ah, what a nice feeling to know that someone is going to get his deserved retribution, and you are the reason for it. No wonder, detectives are so fond of their job!" – quitely mumbled to himself Evan, reading though the documents, Evan finnaly was putting in place the last piese of his set up to catch the thieves.
He left the room without leaving any traces of his presence. Barick job could have been assigned to anyone else, whose job in the scheme was just the collection and delivery of the documents. But because Barick periodically had to go to the trading guild anyway, was ready to do anything for money and was living in the palace, he was selected for the job anyway. That's what became their weak element. Who could have guessed that the third prince who was believed to have lost his memories and became mentally degraded actually no longer existed, but a certain otherworlder has taken over his body and was just pretending to be such, and other than Evan, who would suspect that such a person was part of their grand scheme.
The doctors of the highest levels of accomplishment on the entire continent have in unison stated that he became mentally retarded. Who would argue with those doctors in such a case and who would doubt such a thing when everyone was saying the same thing. To be honest, it was exactly the doctors wrong diagnosis that Evan used it to his advantage.
It should be noted that the doctors senses when inspecting his condition were fooled by the fact that Evan's soul has not fused with the body completely at the time, therefore some of the commands his mind issued were not fulfilled meaning some parts of the brain were misfunctioning which exactly happens only when someone becomes mentally retarded.
