Chapter 4 - Eldest Sister's Marriage (1)

It was a month after the new emperor sent out an edict for the three sisters to be sent off as marriage tribute that the Zhao party set out. Of course, since three princesses are married off for the peace of the land, many Zhao citizens in the capital came out to celebrate.

The three princesses were riding on a single eight-bearer carriage. Surrounding their sedan was a couple of elite royal soldiers who will be guarding them until they reach the Kingdom of Xin. Behind their carriage was a good number carriage that was much simpler in design. These carriages housed their dowry. A 500-man cavalry made up of elite soldiers also followed behind.

As they ride along the road, flower petals and rice grains were thrown. It was a tradition that symbolizes prosperity and happiness for weddings. With how the Zhao citizens came out to see their princesses off, it can be said that most people think that the wedding is an auspicious event.

Of course, Qian Yu - the eldest of the three sisters - thinks otherwise. Getting married during the era of ancient China means that she will have to enter into a polygamous marriage. That's just preposterous!

There is obviously a reason why Qian Yu thinks like this. With her upbringing, and an experience from her past, her mindset has become one where she thinks she is better off not getting married. If she is indeed to wed, then her husband must be monogamous. She will never tolerate multiple wives!

Another thing that Qian Yu can't accept is that there is a possibility that the man she is to wed won't be up to par. She thinks highly of herself and her abilities. Even though she may be a woman, she can guarantee that no man will be a match for her, especially when it comes to using weapons and fighting.

Truth be told, the sisters' isolation from the rest of the world while they were staying in the Zhao Kingdom was all thanks to the fact that the sisters weren't really living in the palace. With their imperial father's agreement, the three sisters went on their own journey to pursue their passion and be strong.

For Qian Yu, she had gone on to learn how to use and craft different weapons being used in the ancient era. She had also participated in some wars while disguising herself as a man. Over the years she had traveled, she had become proficient with the use of different weapons - thanks to her intelligence and natural talent.

If only her proficiency in arms can help her and her sisters get away from their dilemma, then she wouldn't travel in a wedding sedan with the face of an Asura! The sisters have already agreed that there is no way out but to get married.

Now, all she can do is wait for their arrival to Xin. She won't go down without a fight though. In this era, nothing is wrong with picking your own husband, right?

She looked at Lou Yi and Rou Xi who were riding together with her on the same carriage.

"How should we go about picking our own husbands?", she frustratingly asked no one in particular.

Rou Xi looked at her before turning a questioning gaze towards her second eldest sister, Lou Yi, who seems to be enjoying the scenery outside the carriage nonchalantly.

"Don't be impatient.", Lou Yi calmly replied. "It will take three weeks and a half for us to arrive at Xin while keeping our leisurely pace. On the other hand, the information about our husbands-to-be will arrive in two days time. With the remaining travel time, we should have plenty of time to decide who gets married to who."

In two days time, she will come to know more about the three men who will technically become part of her family.

Qian Yu lets out a deep sigh.

"This arranged marriage is really not my thing.", Qian Yu felt frustrated even more.

"Who here in this carriage wants an arranged marriage.", Rou Xi chimed in, to which Qian Yu nodded.

Lou Yi chuckled first before answering her two sisters.

"For the country of Zhao, what else?", Lou Yi derided the two.

"I hope I can find a not-so-disappointing man in this match-up."
