In the afternoon after Ren returned home, he ran into the house excitedly like a little child who was offered candy.
"Aunty Leah, I've got something good!"
In the kitchen you could hear the clattering of pots and pans, as this is the time Aunty Leah always prepares lunch. At the sound of Ren running into the house and excitedly shouting, the sounds stopped as Aunty Leah walked out of the kitchen with a curious look, and her face covered in a layer of sweat. "Young Master? What amazing thing happened to get you so excited?"
Seeing Ren look so excited, compared to his usual behavior recently she was curious, 'What amazing thing will he show me?'
"This!"
"Young master.."
Taking out 6 gold coins from his pouch Ren shoved them into Aunty Leah's hands, "I ran into a fatty today, he bought 30 pieces of roasted meat!"
"That's 10kg a piece.."
In disbelief Aunty Leah looked closely into Ren's eyes, "I don't believe you, I don't know anyone that can afford 30 pieces of roasted meat here in Riven, except the clans"
"He was a fatty, he looked like a meatball! He was bundled in fancy silk clothes!", said Ren with an interested look in his eyes.
"That was my first time seeing that fatty here in Riven, he looks like he's from a rich family I wonder why he's here?"
With a chuckle Aunty Leah looked at Ren with a glimmer in her eyes.
"Ahhhhh! My money!"
"My precious money!"
As they where chatting about the fatty, the where interrupted by what sounded like a pig at a slaughterhouse.
Intrigued, Ren and Aunty Leah both looked at each other as they stepped outside into the blazing sun to see what's going on.
After they opened the rusty gate that was accompanied by a loud screech, they stopped and looked at the massive crowd gathered in front of an alley. Through the chattering of the crowd and the constant screams of the pig at a slaughterhouse, Ren was able to figure out that there was a fatty bundled in silk clothing screaming about losing a lot of money.
"Aunty Leah I know that person..."
With a weird look on his face, Ren looked at Aunty Leah and started to make his way through the crowd..
"My precious money!!"
"Ahhhh!"
"Boss..."
"What bastard was it!? If I see your face again, agghhh!"
"It's the fault of your appetite.."
"HOW DARE YOU INSULT MY HANDSOME FLESHYNESS!"
After pushing through a couple hundred onlookers, Ren could see a fatty rolling on the ground and screaming as if he had suffered a thousand wrongs.
"This fatty, you're the one who bought all the food…."
With a vein pulsing on his forehead, Ren started to head over to where the fatty is.
As Ren stepped into the alley, the blazing heat from the sun vanished and was replaced by a cool feeling. Letting out a sigh of relief, the three guards noticed Ren and a hopeful look appeared on their faces, "Boss, it's him, the one you bought all the food from"
As Ren walked into the alley his footsteps made light thumping sounds on the cracked bluestone alleyway, with a sigh, Ren yelled through the fatty's screaming, "Shut up will you?! You bought that food, I even told you the price!"
With that yell although not the loudest, it was heard by the whole crowd and they quieted down to better hear what was going on, it's a boring town so they all like a good show.
Hearing a familiar persons voice the fatty stopped crying and with a snivel, and a tremble of flesh the fatty bounced off the ground, did three flips, and landed on his two feet, like a cat casually leaping off the top of a fence, accompanied by a massive tremble of flesh.
'This fatty… Those expensive silk clothes don't look like they'll last long under all that stress...'
Looking at Ren, the fatty let out a snort as he quickly wiped the tears and snot off of his face, "You! It's your fault! Give my money back!"
This caused the crowd to start to buzz like a disturbed bee nest being poked with a stick.
"Thief?"
"This honest boy..."
"How can he be a thief?"
In the crowd there where those who where on Ren's side and those who where against him because he always took the best stall location when he sold roasted meat, they where the ones that where gloating because of the trouble he's in.
In a town like this, a thief is punished with broken hands if caught, even if you steel a carrot.
In cities and larger places like the capital, a pickpocket would spend a few days behind bars if caught, and only large thefts where heavily punished.
Those that where mad about the best spot being taken everyday, where excited at the thought of Ren's hands being broken.
"If his hands are broken he can't roast meat anymore, hehe, that'd get rid of the competition hehe"
From the crowd a voice that outdid them all could be heard.
This caused the crowd to get louder.
The muttering of the crowd caused Ren's face to turn a light shade of red as a vein started to throb on his forehead, he glared at the fatty, "As I said before, I clearly told you the price, 20 silvers a piece of roasted meat! You bought 30! 600 silvers! 6 gold coins! Did I make you buy 30?! Don't blame your appetite on me!"
This caused the fatty's flesh to tremble even fiercer.
