Chapter 11 - Magic (Part 1)

Thwack, there was a loud sound, Aerwyna hit Reitz on the head again.

"Hey is that how you treat your Lordship?" Reitz frowned as he rubbed his head.

"What do you mean your training starts tomorrow? What are you going to do all day today?"Aerwyna asked as she glowered at him.

"Well 'Lording' of course," Reitz replied.

"Tss, you just don't what to teach Ezra yet cause you have no ideas and you're going to Maester Grimfire for ideas." Aerwyna declared.

"No that's not true." he retorted and then he looked at Ezra and said, "Don't listen to your mother, I know what I am doing."

When Reitz said this Ezra gave him a doubtful look.

"Stop acting cool and just teach him you can't go to others for help cause you might expose Ezra. Remember what they taught you when you were starting," Aerwyna said.

"Okay okay," Reitz replied as he looked at Ezra with a determined look.

"Let's start Magic is all around us Ezra, Magic is sort of an energy that can be manipulated by us living beings, we can turn it into the elements, like Fire, Earth, Air and Water. Some magical energy can be found in magical cores not just living beings. Magical cores are different from magic crystals which channel magic and output them as light or other things. For example, we use a magic core and crystal pair to light up our bedroom."

"Oh? That sounds like a power source and a circuit." Ezra thought. "Other than that, other things don't make sense. This magic seems to be messing up the law of Conservation of Mass and Energy, Mass cannot be created or destroyed but clearly, that is not the case in this universe" What did not make sense is that there were no obvious changes in the other things around him. The most intriguing aspect was that in a closed environment such as this planet, the matter/energy gain still seems equal. If any hobo around the block could create matter, then matter would just keep on accumulating but it seems that the net-loss, net-gain still applied in this universe. Of course on earth there were ways of creating matter but not in such an incredible way. The creation or conversion of matter from energy involved mainly particle accelerators, and huge amounts of energy. The particle accelerators would try and smash photons (units of Electromagnetic Frequency, also thought of as elementary particles that light is composed of) and if it was successful this, in turn, would give an antiproton or antielectron with their equivalent proton or electron pair.

Even in such a situation physicists could create matter one atom at a time there was no way of mass producing this. "Creating matter in such amounts without producing anti-matter is very strange. Is there some other quantum field that governs the universe here? But why can organisms affect the quantum field anyway?" As Ezra was in deep thought, his father continued.

"Even though magic can be found everywhere only nobles, can utilize it to the full potential. Most commoners can't use it, Well bastards can use them as well. That is why Rex Imperia promotes siring many children aside from those of your spouse." Reitz glanced nervously at his wife. She made a gesture that cut seemed to be cutting his throat.

Gulp, Reitz swallowed his saliva. "Hey, quality is better than quantity isn't it darling? We have a son equivalent to a hundred sons anyway. Hehe" He then shuddered uncontrollably as he was sweating profusely. Aerwyna rolled her eyes as he said this.

"Of course the lordship can't be passed to bastards and purebloods are way stronger than mixed-bloods. There are occasions where non-nobles without a trace of noble blood in them can use magic but they can only do one or two spells they can also control their bodies very well and they can strengthen them adeptly, these commoners mainly become knights. It is also very rare for them to be able to do advanced magic like delayed cast and chant-less magic, I think it is mainly due to their magic capacity," Reitz explained.

"Moving on. Every school of magic has different quirks and nuances but their basic training is a visualization of the chant. Before that, though you must be able to condense your magic aura and focus it into a single point. Watch me, Ezra," as he continued he did a quick jab with his hand striking sideways and a pressurized flame came out of his hand like a sword. Ezra observed that unlike his mother who had magic aura that seemed to flow, his father's aura was spiky and it seemed to easily condense. The condensation of magic was so abrupt that his magic aura seemed to disappear in an instant.

"Unlike most houses where they teach you some form of basic summoning like conjuring a flame or water ball, We of House Blackfyre teach our young how to condense their magic first so that we can conjure our flame sabre. I have mastered this and thus I can use this using chant-less magic. I will teach you the chant today and maybe you can make your own sabre." He beamed as he said this.
