Chapter 63: Darkness vs Shadow (2)
The sabres started falling from the sky. Once they were touching the ground, a strange thing was happening.
One more sabre fell, and a sphere of darkness surrounded it, consuming a tree nearby. After that, when the darkness dissipated, the tree was no more and a сrater was left on the ground.
The soldiers immediately started retreating while the dead men were standing still, consumed by the hellish rain. It seemed spirits left them, and now they reminded puppets that were standing only because of some seamless strings.
Xin felt slightly shocked looking at the devastation caused by the falling sabres.
The battle in the sky did not look so impressive, it was in the air after all and both fighters were rather strict and did not want to waste their energy on mindless destruction.
Only now he finally saw how strong both of them were. The old man for making such a devastating attack, and the black wolf for blocking it and remaining harmless.
Suddenly, the black wolf moved. He vanished and the next second he appeared right before the old man, a pitch-black sword in his paws.
…
The old man Lao was surprised; his enemy finally decided to attack him. Has he saw through him, or was there some other reason? It was hard to say, right now he has to block it at all cost and pretend that it did not hurt him at all. Otherwise, the opponent will be able to measure his strength, and that will be troublesome.
He brandished his sabre blocking the upcoming attack. For a moment both silhouettes froze in the sky.
Then the old man suddenly flew back, and then immediately toward the enemy. The tip of his sabre was pointed at the chest of the black wolf.
Now, for the first time since the battle began, the black wolf evaded.
It flew back, faster than the old man did, and soon a distance appeared between them.
"You are good at running." Said old man Lao, a smile on his face.
The black wolf ignored him.
Meanwhile, it was very chaotic in the mind of the old man. The attack of the demon was strong, very strong. Some strange energy entered his body and started burning his vitality.
He managed to resist it with his Qi. However, the damage was inflicted and a lot of his Qi was wasted.
Before this attack, he had 80% of his Qi. Now it went down to 70%.
Not a good number considering that he still has not injured the enemy at all.
Still, this attack was not too bad. After receiving the strike, he immediately struck back. Therefore, the enemy still should not be sure about how much harm he has done.
Well, at least that what the old man thought just a second before the black wolf flew toward him and attacked once again. An explosion followed, and then again and again.
This time the sword was twice as heavy to block, and much more oppressive. In the span of several seconds the blue wolf delivered ten attacks, and with each, a new wave of harmful energy was entering the old man's body.
"You bastard!"
He shouted, and the second sabre appeared in his other hand. He immediately slashed at the wolf. But before the old man could see the result of his counterattack, he suddenly felt a gust of wind behind himself. At once, he turned and slashed at the shadow flying toward him at a great speed.
Boom!
The shadow was severed in two by the blade of darkness; the guandao it was holding started falling down.
The next moment the old man turned toward the wolf. His eyes went wide.
Two more silhouettes were now standing in the air alongside him. Corpses, one of a bearded human in a full-iron armor, the other of a lizard with a tall body and two heads on long necks.
Both of them were completely grey.
The worst thing is, the wolf was still unharmed.
That means his attack failed, again.
But how?
Before the old man could find the answer to that question, the grey corpses shot toward him.
Their speed wasn't too good and he could evade them. The old man, however, decided against it. He brandished his sabres and slashed at the corpses once they were in a meter before him.
He cut both of them in two. However, instead of falling down they suddenly exploded. A new wave of harmful energy entered his body.
Right now he only had 50% of his Qi.
The situation was getting terrible.
Soon two more corpses joined the wolf, two headless humans.
"…"
Smile completely left the old man's face. He knew that pretending would not work anymore. At the beginning of the battle, he had the advantage, but now it was in the paws of the wolf.
"Am I getting old?"
A strange thought for a situation this dire, however, it was a very serious question. There was a high chance he will lose this battle.
And then what, he will join that army of corpses? A fitting end.
"I'm thinking too much."
A sudden thought sounded in the old man's head, a suicidal thought, for the next moment it vanished and complete silence reigned in his mind.
Thinking too much.
Ha-ha.
"Yes, too much…"
Once again, two corpses flew toward the old man. Once again, he destroyed them and harmful energy entered his mind.
Then he sighed and slowly lifted his sabres toward the sky.
And slashed.
At once, the clouds vanished from the sky.
The ground trembled, the sky darkened.
Then came an explosion, then another and another.
A sea of darkness appeared in the sky. It was splashing shadows like a boiling water.
At this point, only the fighters in the sky could understand and follow what exactly was going on.
