Chapter 64: Darkness vs Shadow (3)

Wisps of darkness covered the sky, only a tiny line over the horizon was left from the blue firmament. A dark pulsating cloud was shrouding heavens.

The old man was furiously attacking, locating his enemy and attacking again. And of course, the enemy was fighting him back. However, at this point, the old man had no care for his body, he wasn't even trying to avoid or block the wolf's blows.

At last, the weapons collided.

A wave of wind came, and the darkness dissipated.

Two silhouettes were standing in the sky. The old man was in a bad shape, blood stains all over his chest. A large scar appeared on his forehead and red drops could be seen in his beard.

However, there was a smile on his face. Genuine smile for he finally managed to injure that damnation.

Dark blood was flowing from the wolf's chest; a large scar was on it.

"So you can bleed..."

Whispered the old man, and suddenly his eyes went wide. For that injury that he wasted 30% of his Qi to inflict (so now it was just 20%) suddenly started regenerating. The blood dried and the flesh regenerated.

The wolf became completely unharmed save for the lack of fur on the previously injured place.

"What the hell…"

Everything became clear in the mind of the old man Lao. However, he wasn't happy because of that.

It seems his previous attacks were not completely wasted. It's just the wolf managed to heal from them all.

That revelation explained a lot, but it created even more question.

How much the wolf can regenerate, does he wastes any Qi or whatever he's using for that, why… why was he trying to hide it? Now that was a real clue, Lao suddenly brandished his sabres and delivered a strike to prevent the wolf from intervention his thought process.

Yes, why it was hiding it. Was indestructibility and regeneration that much different? Why it was… why… Why only now he saw the process of regeneration?

Suddenly, as if lightning struck Lao in his head. He looked at the animal who met his strikes by putting two more corpses in front if itself and its calm expression when it turned out the strikes were illusory.

"Corpses, I see."

He wasn't an amateur when it comes to fighting. Once Lao analyzed the battle up to now it became clear to him.

When, after an unsuccessful attack, the sabres started detonating and destroying the corpses on the ground the animal immediately attacked him.

Why? Because it had no other choice. It still wasn't sure how strong he is, however seeing the walking dead being put to death as if triggered it.

They were the source of its regeneration, it is also the reason they were standing still while since the battle began. It is also the reason he saw regeneration now: because it became slower after so many dead-man died. Lao still was not sure of all the details, but one thing was clear.

"Destroy corpses! Burn them until nothing is left!"

He amplified his shout with Qi, making sure that every soldier would hear him.

By the corner of his eye, he saw as they slowly switched to action.

Then he looked back at the being before himself.

Its black eyes were staring at him.

It was sad to admit, but this demon won first several rounds. No, rather than that it won every round before the last, and only now he finally managed to make a comeback. From this point, it was all up to luck.

He lifted his sabres.

Once again, the battle began.

Xin made an awkward smile and looked down, holding his breath. In the sky two silhouettes, black and blue, were fighting each other; however, the fight was too fast to see anything. Especially now, when it was almost completely dark. In the ground, on the other hand, the fires were burning brightly.

After hearing the old man's order the soldiers were rather blank-minded at first, and then, after being ordered by some officer with a rather youthful voice, they started destroying and burning the corpses.

They were cautious at first but turned out the army of dead was really dead, only standing for some reason.

Soon many bonfires lit the battlefield.

However, there was one problem.

The tree he was standing on was also ignited by an accident.

However, before he could even think about how to deal with this situation even worse problem appeared.

"Long time no see, boy!"

Said a girly and sweet voice.

He turned to the gill in a loose blue dress who suddenly appeared next to him.

Lao breathed in. His gaze was on the barely distinguishable deadly shadow amidst the stars. The night has come. Good thing that he was trained for situations like that.

Even in complete darkness, he still could count the exact number of injured he had given the beast, and also he could see that none of them was vital. Of course, now the opponent was more sluggish, but he still hasn't managed to get to his chest and destroy that damn crystal.

There wasn't much Qi left in him.

He had a hard decision to make.

He could deliver one more attack, but that potentially could lead to his death.

Alternatively, he could run away.

Was it even worth risking life for? Hard to say, he did not care about that army or that demon the brat asked him to save, nor even about that brat himself.

Only his clan mattered. If he will die, his clan will lose an Earth Synchronisation Warrior.

And for what, a little bit of good reputation? Was the risk worth it?

No, it wasn't.
