Four years ago, enigmatic portals materialized globally, unleashing hordes of monstrous creatures upon an unsuspecting humanity.  Initial attempts to neutralize the portals with nuclear weapons proved futile, underscoring the inadequacy of existing technology against this unprecedented threat.  Seven days after their emergence, the portals spewed forth a relentless tide of monsters, laying waste to cities worldwide.  In response, humanity's latent potential manifested as the "System," granting individuals extraordinary powers and birthing a new class of heroes: the Hunters.  These empowered individuals successfully repelled the initial onslaught, discovering that eliminating monsters granted them experience, leading to increased strength and abilities.  However, this victory was short-lived; the brief respite ended with the reappearance of countless new portals, signaling the true beginning of a protracted and devastating global conflict.
