On her legal marriage ceremony, Poppy Sinclair receives the shock of her life when she is presented with another marriage certificate to a man whose name didn't exist in any records.
Her family publicly humiliates her in front of everyone at the civil bureau, branding her a whore and a disgrace. And in front of her trembling eyes, her betrothed, Dale Roosevelt proceeds to marry her stepsister, Layla Sinclair instead, signing their marriage certificate right there.
Poppy thought nothing her twisted family ever did could shock her. But she was wrong.
Three days later, she is met with a truth she could never face — her fake marriage with the stranger was planned by her stepsister and betrothed, to a man they thought was deceased, just so that they could get married first and hide their affairs.
"You'll marry Dale... even if it means being his second wife!" Her family had said when she exposed her half-sister.
And when Poppy tried to rebel, she realized that fate was cruel to her. Her supposed husband, Alaric Langford, was a mad man the world knew nothing about, and a man no one dares to cross.
Trapped in a twisted marriage, Poppy decided to go against her cruel fate and take revenge on everyone who had ruined her life.
But something was weird.
Why was her mad husband aggressive with others but clingy with her?
And why was he strange sometimes like he was normal?
## EXCEPT 1
Poppy stopped just at the entrance... and froze.
"What in the name of sanity...?"
The front yard—no, the entire courtyard—was in chaos.
They were guards everywhere, chasing after one man.
And not just any man.
A tall, dangerously handsome, half-naked man with wild black hair. He ran barefoot through the courtyard, laughing like a child who'd stolen candy, while the guards struggled to catch up.
"GET HIM!"
"HE'S HEADING FOR THE FOUNTAIN!"
Poppy's mouth fell open. Her brain couldn't process what she was seeing. Why were they chasing him?
The man suddenly paused when he sensed her. And then he turned.
Their eyes met.
She drew in a sharp breath at the eye contact. There was something disturbingly beautiful about him. His chest rose and fell as sweat glistened across his skin, and he looked at her curiously.
Then he smiled.
She felt her heart thunder wildly in her chest, but her face paled when she realized what he was about to do.
Without warning, he yanked off the last piece of clothing he had on.
Just like that, he was completely naked.
