Indra jatra

It is the biggest religious, cultural and historic street festival of Nepal, particularly within the Kathmandu valley and mainly observed by Newar community. Yenya means "Kathmandu festival" in Nepal Bhasa. It is the time when the advent of the monsoons is celebrated in the name of the rain god 'Indra'. The eight days long celebrations consist of two events. Indra Jatra is marked by masked dances of deities and demons (commonly known as Lakhe Naach, Mahakali Naach, Lusiki Naach and Dash Avatar), displays of sacred images and tableaus in honor of the Hindu deity Indra, the king of heaven. The other event is Kumari Jatra, the chariot procession of the Living Goddess Kumari. Three chariots carrying human representations of Goddess Kumari, Lord Ganesh and Lord Bhairava are pulled along the festival route through Kathmandu Durbar Square. Classical dancers, mask dancers of deities wearing different kinds of traditional masks and costumes and musicians also accompany the chariot procession. The dancing continues throughout the route to celebrate the visit of the rain god, Indra. The procession starts at around 3 pm. Indra Jatra was started by King Gunakamadeva to commemorate the establishment of the city of Kathmandu in the 10th century. Kumari Jatra, which means the chariot festival of Kumari, coincides with Indra Jatra. It was started in 1756 AD during the reign of Malla King Jaya Prakash Malla. Family members deceased in the past year are also remembered during the festival. The main venue of the festivities is Kathmandu Durbar Square. The celebrations last for eight days. There is a public holiday in Kathmandu Valley to mark the festival. Indra Jatra also marks the beginning of the festive season, which is preceded by major festivals Dashain and Tihar.

Zeus, You're Doomed!

Under the soft glow of dawn, the sea breeze gently swept across Azure Veil Isle. Young Phaethon stood gazing at the distant horizon, but inside, he was filled with confusion and unease. The people on the island had begun to question his identity: “You’re not the son of the Sun God! You don’t even have the golden eyes—how could you be a child of the gods?” Determined to prove his divine lineage, Phaethon set out on a journey to find his father, Helios. He crossed oceans and scaled mountains, and finally, he arrived at the magnificent, golden Sun Temple. Standing before his father, he pleaded, “Father, please believe me. I will become a son you can be proud of.” He asked to drive the Sun Chariot, hoping to prove his identity once and for all. Despite Helios’s repeated warnings about the dangers of controlling the Sun Chariot, Phaethon insisted on going through with it. But driving the chariot was far harder than he had imagined. The fiery steeds sensed his inexperience, and the chariot spiraled out of control, wreaking havoc across the sky, bringing both freezing cold and scorching flames to the earth below. What Phaethon didn’t know was that all of this was part of Zeus’s scheme. Zeus had long been undermining the Sun God’s family, plotting to have his own son, Apollo, replace Helios as the god of light. It was Zeus who had spread the rumors about Phaethon’s lineage, stirring up his impulsiveness and pushing him to make a fatal mistake. To "save" the world, Zeus, pretending to be the hero, unleashed a thunderbolt, striking Phaethon down from the sky. Phaethon fell into the River Eridanus, and his life came to an end. But the story didn’t end there. As his soul drifted in the darkness, a mysterious voice called out to him: “Young soul, are you willing to take on a new mission?” Upon learning the truth, Phaethon didn’t hesitate: “I am!” Reborn with new memories and powers, he returned to Rhodes. This time, he was no longer the boy everyone mocked. His silver eyes, like deep abysses, held an unfathomable power and determination. Facing the sky, he declared with unwavering resolve: “This time, Zeus, You're Doomed!” This was now a battle of divine power. But who was the mysterious figure that brought Phaethon back to life? Were they using him to challenge Zeus, or did they have their own hidden agenda?

Violence in Sports

Violence in sports usually refers to violent and often unnecessarily harmful intentional physical acts committed during, or motivated by, a sports game, often in relation to contact sports such as American football, ice hockey, rugby football, lacrosse, association football, boxing, mixed martial arts, wrestling, and water polo and, when referring to the players themselves, often involving excessively violent or potentially illegal physical contact beyond the normal levels of contact expected while playing the sport. These acts of violence can include intentional attempts to injure a player or coach by another player or coach, but can also include threats of physical harm or actual physical harm sustained by players or coaches by fans or those engaging in the spectating of sports, or threats and acts of violence performed by fans or spectators upon opposing fans or other spectators. Causes There are two major theories on the cause of violence in sports. One theory holds that humans have an instinct for violence, developed during a time when early human ancestors had to resort to violence and aggressiveness to survive and reproduce. Another theory deals with the sociological aspects of violence in sports, stating that sports are "mock battles" which can become actual battles due to their competitive nature. RITUAL VIOLENCE High school, college, and even professional sports teams often include initiation ceremonies (known as hazing in the USA) as a rite of passage. A 1999 study by Alfred University and the NCAA found that approximately four out of five college US athletes (250,000 per year) experienced hazing.[2] Half were required to take part in alcohol-related initiations, while two-thirds were subjected to humiliation rituals. Violence may also be related to nationalism or as an outlet for underlying social tensions. It is often alcohol-related. FAN VIOLENCE Violence by supporters of sports teams dates back to Roman times, when supporters of chariot racing teams were frequently involved in major riots.
