Without thinking twice, she swerved, steering the car sharply to avoid hitting it. The puppy was safe. But Hazel wasn't. Her car had crashed, and she died instantly. Now, Hazel had become a ghost. Her body felt strange—light and weightless, yet she could feel every movement as if she were still alive. She floated, her hair billowing as though caught in an invisible current. Then came the noise. Ding! The sound was loud, sharp, and mechanical. Hazel flinched, looking around until her eyes landed on the robotic bird. It was still scanning her dead body with its obnoxious laser beams, beeping and whirring as if annoyed at its own failures. Hazel frowned, watching it from a distance, but after what felt like the tenth scan, her curiosity got the better of her. She floated closer, hovering near the hideous creature. It twitched, almost startled by her presence, before it froze completely. Ding!
