She never felt belonged in that world. Out of a sudden, she found herself alive in another person's body. And, this being comics, we had to get a little nitpicky: We’re only dealing with comics first published by North American publishing houses, and we’re not including newspaper comic strips, webcomics, or reprints thereof. Some pages are notable for their written content — game-changing first appearances, brilliant narrative innovations, and so on. Some are significant because the artwork told a story in ways no one had thought to do before, and ended up being emulated — or, in some cases, outright aped. All are interesting on their own and integral parts of the tomes from which they were plucked. We conclude on what we think is a high note, with a few recent comics that have already made an impact and portend a richer and more diverse future. Strung together, these pages are a megacomic of their own, documenting the evolution of an art form in constant flux. You can click on the title of each page to open a window with a full-sized version. Gods’ Man (1929) Writer, penciler, and inker: Lynd Ward Stranger holding paper. Photo: Cape & Smith We could “Um, actually” our way through candidates for “First Comic Book Ever” until we’re blue in the face. But it’s inarguable that one of the leading pioneers of modern longform graphic storytelling was Flemish illustrator Frans Masereel. Right after World War I, he created a series of “pictorial narratives” without words — you may have spotted his most famous, Passionate Journey (1919), in the gift shop at your local art museum. Chicago-born art student Lynd Ward discovered Masereel’s work while studying printmaking in Leipzig, Germany, and was inspired to use the oldest print medium — woodblocks pressed into ink — to create something very modern: the first stand-alone graphic narrative by an American, or as he called it, a “novel in woodcuts.” Gods’ Man (1929) tells the story of a struggling artist who makes a supernatural bargain with a mysterious stranger (pictured here) for a magic brush that comes at a terrible cost. The book, composed of one woodcut illustration on each of the volume’s 139 pages, was a surprise success, and Ward produced five more graphic novels (though use of that term was decades away) before settling into a career as an illustrator and fine artist. His work was a huge inspiration to future cartoonists, including Art Spiegelman, whose Maus was heavily influenced by Ward’s woodcut style. Spiegelman later edited Library of America’s excellent boxed set of Ward’s silent novels.

Luna the Queer Pirate Queen

Follow Luna’s journey as she and her LGBTQ pirate crew go on adventures on the open sea, meeting people along the way that may or may not also be of the LGBTQ+ community! Not sure where this will go, but I’d though I’d give it a shot! To My Readers: please understand that while I’m a native English speak, grammar has never been my strong suit, however I love writing. This is a story that I created for a comic and drawing class in high school. The characters are all made by me, some might have been influenced by pop culture, music and yes maybe some anime. I will take criticism when it comes to grammar and sentence structure, in fact, I will gladly welcome it! So please don’t hesitate to tell me if you see any issues! I am obsessed with pirates so I will include little hints about the actual pirate life, as well as nods to real life famous pirates. This is supposed to be a bit of a comedy, and it will include an overabundance of LGBTQ+ related stuff, though I will try to not make the LGBTQ+ stuff the basis of any jokes, and if it is, it’s not going to be something I, a bisexual female, intend to cause harm. The main character Luna, is going to be a bit of the butt end of some of the jokes, most of which are short jokes. I made Luna to be like me a bit, and a bit of how I wish I was, but one thing that is the same is we are both short, we are both bi, and we are both huge animal lovers, the difference is, I love furry friends, she loves feathery friends. None of the characters are intentionally like any real people. If they are, it is purely accidental. Some were inspired by characters of fictional works, but not copy pasted, and if you feel like they might too much like a certain character, that could run into issues, please let me know! As a final note, I would love to one day have this turned into a webcomic, however I don’t have the computer skills to do so yet, if you would like to collaborate with me and make this into a full webcomic, comment on a chapter and we can talk about it! This is something that I built over the years and have just recently gotten the confidence to show the world, I hope you enjoy Luna and her LGBTQ+ crew, I hope you love the fun adventures they go on, their life stories they will discover, and the abundance of LGBTQ+ love and support!

I Became the Lousy Side Top (Eng. Translation)

Seo Jaewoo wakes up to find himself in the world of a BL novel. But he isn't just any random person. He's actually the lousy side top character who's meant to torment the main bottom, Yoo Hyeonjin. What's worse is that by the novel's conclusion, all of Jaewoo's despicable actions catch up to him, and he is killed by the story's crazy main top and Hyeonjin's love interest, Choi Mujin! In order to avoid his death, Jaewoo decides to change his original role and get on Hyeonjin's good side. His method being: luring him with food, of course! While his tactic proves effective and he slowly befriends Hyeonjin, that doesn't become the only major change to the plot. After an unexpected encounter with Mujin, Jaewoo's position as the "lousy side top" gets completely flipped upside down. - Please Note that this is NOT my original work. This is just a fan translation. Again, this is not my original work and I give full credits to the original author of the novel, “Robo.” Keep in mind once again that this is a fan translation. Serised's: LOVE is P

I am Serised, a fairy that came to existence because desires made me necessary to exist so I could fulfill them. Today, I'll follow Ken and Shiela's story. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Ken is in a slump from his career as a webcomic creator. He was once recognized with one work he had that got adapted in a movie. Sadly, due to his grandpa's unsupportive spirit, and his betraying brother, he can't find enough inspiration for his next piece; his ideas are getting no where. It all changed in an ordinary day, when he met Shiela, who's by his standards, a heroine-worthy college lady. However after a lot of encounters... "She treats me like a stranger everytime I meet her. Just, what is she doing?" Ken said to himself trying to figure out what is happening. Their encounters are like first times that let him see different personalities of her. Ironically, this puzzle-like feeling, drawn him in even more. He was curious, got interested, and couldn't help but be invested. "She might be playing with me, but I have my ulterior motive anyway," Ken said to himself justifying his pain. Can Ken keep up to this stingy 'stranger-ship'? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I am Serised. Wanna know what desire I fulfilled today? Ken won't know, but you will. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Notes: Upates are irregular for the meantime. (follow me if u want, I post illustrations there bout SLiP, hehe) ig: @lalaby.you twt: @Lalaby_me
