Kaeleen has spent his entire life in the shadows of despair, tormented by his peers, rejected by his own family, and betrayed by those he trusted. His depression drives him to the brink of an irreversible decision: suicide. But when he decides to end his suffering, something unimaginable happens. Instead of finding the end, he is transported to Aether, a world governed by magic, fantastical creatures, and unfathomable mysteries.
Aether is a ruthless place, where weakness is tantamount to death. Kaeleen, along with hundreds of young people like him, is forced to participate in a dangerous process to obtain a mana core that will allow him to survive. But the cost is high: the process kills most of the summoned, leaving only a few with the ability to harness the world’s vital energy.
As Kaeleen struggles to understand this new world and his own power, he faces a disturbing revelation: he possesses a rare and feared affinity for dark mana. The whispers around him grow louder, and not even Princess Selene can hide her fear in his presence. Even the knight Sir Aldric looks at him with disdain. Why? What secrets does Aether hold, and what does the presence of dark mana in Kaeleen mean?
Accompanied by Borik, a man who has seen as much suffering as he has, Kaeleen must decide who to trust as tensions among his new companions rise. Is Kaeleen a threat to this world or its savior? And, most terrifying of all: who is he, really?
