The Slum Swordmaster
In a world where kingdoms battle for power, demons attack humans, and different races battle for territory, the life of one man would change the destiny of all. Jang Young, a modern day martial arts enthusiast who loves fantasy novels and stories about reincarnation, dies attempting to master an ancient sword style. To his dismay, far from being reborn as a nobleman in a fantasy world as he had wished, he finds himself in the body of Muriel—a war child on the verge of death in the slums of the kingdom of Arslan, a nation ruled by mercenaries.
Armed with his new information, icy personality, and skill in various sword techniques, Jang (now known as Muriel) begins his climb up the social ranks from the lowermost rung on society. In a body that had previously been the "weakest war child," he aims to fulfill both the aspiration to be powerful that Muriel had as well as his own aspiration to rise up the ranks to nobility, gather a harem, and master the sword technique that had evaded him in his previous life.
This saga tells the journey of war child Jang rising to the position of Sword Saint, and eventually, King of Arslan, as he unites the kingdoms, negotiates peace with different races, and confronts the invading demons. Along the way, he acquires friends and foes, discovers love and treachery, and learns that the fantasy world as he has read about in novels has much more complexity and danger to it.
