The novel starts during Armageddon when various demon lords and evil gods come through portals known as rifts. The main protagonists are a guild called "The Ethereals." They are all human hybrids and the last hope of creation as we know it. They are a squad consisting of Yuèliàng(a female dark elf), Ảo(a female fae and the mage), Blade(a male dragon and the swordsman), Ilera(a female angle and the healer), Kkeungi(a male berserker), Xāh̄ār(a male chef) and Mijikai(a male dwarven blacksmith). The prologue ends with the whole guild being completely atomized and sent back 1000 years in the past - the day their guild was made.
