Pendulum Girl
Evangeline is left to stumble through the streets, rain pouring down on her and on the verge of death. Her stomach gapes open, spilling intestines into her arms, her blood slicking the stone steps of a roadside shrine.
Her neck is slit, silencing her voice to nothing more than gasping wheezes. The rain drips into her wounds as she collapses against the shrine’s walls.
Pure desperation and sorrow drives her trembling hands to clasp together as she prays, not to a god she knows, but to anything that might listen.
Her life ended that night, snuffed out like a candle. But her body stood once more.
