Half Blood Prince Opening

Half me and half...

"Get your hands off me!" she almost shouted, wrestling against my grip, so I held her even tighter. "Put this on!" I groaned, toiling to keep her in place and wishing again I’d worn the damn gloves. The feel of her warm skin under my arm and palm wasn’t helping my focus. "I'm not taking you home like this!" "You don't tell me what to do!" she snapped, thrashing to break free of my hold as I fumbled with the cloak in my other hand, trying to drape it over her bare shoulders. "I'm not going home! Let me go, I said!" "Did you really think I got you out of there just to let you wander the streets, almost naked, like a lunatic?" That stopped her. "What did you call me?!" "LU-NA-TIC." "You... You…! Take your hands off me, you insolent brute!" Enraged, she yanked her arm too abruptly and lost her balance. I caught her, wrapped her in the cloak, and threw her over my shoulder. "PUT ME DOWN!" She shrieked and flailed, but I ignored her, making my way to the Commander’s house, which, thanks to Braa, was only two streets away. Since the entire population was in the square for the ridiculous festival, no one intervened at the frantic cries of the wild creature. No wonder in the ten years I've known the Commander, I've never heard that he has a daughter. She must’ve been kept locked away. Strangely, she suddenly went still and quiet. Had she grown tired, worried about attracting attention, or finally realized how inappropriate it was to show up at her parents' doorstep in this state? She didn’t seem to care before. With every step, my anxiety grew—she was limp. "Hey!" No answer. Seriously?! "Hey, you!" Nothing. A bad feeling crept over me, so I pulled her off my shoulder and into my arms. Her head fell against my chest—unconscious. "Hey! Hey, you!" I shook her, but she didn’t react. Panic surged through me. Had she fainted? Had I held her too tight? Lifting her more securely, I sprinted toward the Commander's house.

His nails elongated and sharpened, while his canines protruded from his pristine row of teeth, revealing his primal nature. Ragnar's body quivered as the remnants of the ancient entity receded. His breaths came in ragged bursts, his eyes fluttering open to reveal a mix of relief and anguish. "Ragnar...," Sophia's voice trembled as she called out Ragnar's name. Ragnar startled, slowly opening his eyes. His irises slitted, elongating like those of a reptile. The orbs mirrored Ymat's, an exact reflection of his dragon's eyes. To my new readers: Check below for important info. Chapter 1 - 8 of the novel is essentially just a prologue of the novel and it does not impact it too much, so you can skip it if you're averse to things like torture or anything that could induce negativity. Then again, I am not saying that chapter 1 to chapter 8 are less important but some readers might not like it as I've discovered. So I thought about putting it here just in case. But if you don't mind checking it out, then go ahead and read from chapter 1 at your own risk. -BMDR .... Check out my other novel: Two Worlds: Same But Different!! Demon's Prince

"Mother," I said as I opened my eyes.   My throat was so dry that I couldn't even speak. Everything around me is a haze. I gazed at the candlelight. It was wobbling from side to side. I noticed a woman seated near me, but everything was fuzzy.   I heard a voice unexpectedly. It was a woman's voice. Her voice was echoing in my ears.   That woman was singing a low-toned lullaby.   "Mother, is it you, mother?" I asked softly. The sound abruptly ceased, and I heard my name, "Maxilin, I am here, son."   "Mother," I said with a tremble in my voice. I have no idea what's wrong with me.   I reached out cautiously to touch her, but she was out of my reach.   "Where are you, mother?" Maxilin asked. "Oh, my beloved son, try to hold me. Please come here." He heard the sound once more.   "Mother," Maxilin tried to stand up, but he was too weak. "Maxi, my son, Try to come here. Please follow me, " Maxi narrowed his eyes in an effort to see her face clearly, but he couldn't because everything was fuzzy. A woman in a white or blue outfit moved in front of his sight. Maxi took a few steps forward while still gripping the chair. "Mother, don't leave me," he murmured, dizzily.   "I am not, my child. Kindly accompany me." As soon as he heard it, he saw in his fuzzy vision that someone had opened the door. "Mother, please don't leave me," Maxilin pleaded. He let go of the chair's hold and dashed behind the woman. "Mother, don't leave me. Wait." In his frail state, he shouted and followed her. In the middle of his path, he came to a standstill. "Mother, you've left me here alone once again," he murmured.   "Maxi," he heard the woman's voice unexpectedly. Maxi glanced up and looked around. It's all clear now, but he's stuck in the middle of the woods. He gazed up at the sky. A giant moon was staring at him, and a horde of deadly, voracious creatures were roaring around him.   "Son," someone touched his shoulder, and as he looked around, he saw a terrifying creature standing in front of him.   That creature grinned and said, "Hello, dear."
