The story opens with the decisive parley between the leaders of the Umueze clan and Mazi Odoh. The clan leaders, as the antagonists, use both traditional and diabolical threats to make the Mazi Odoh and his family to jettison their aspirations and serve the collective desires of the clan. This represents the conflict of the story. The plots builds up around Kingsley, the protagonist, who struggles to liberate and fulfil his family's aspirations of carving a niche in the legal profession. Myriads of tragic events lay on his path to his destiny, some were to clear his path to becoming a legal luminary, some were there as stumbling blocks, while others were self-inflicted. This central theme of the inevitability of destiny is masterfully weaved around other issues in legal jurisprudence and philosophy that border around the flourishing of human life in our contemporary society.
